Obituary of Glenn Gow

Peter Glenn Gow was born on November 23, 1943 in Kenora Ontario to George and Eva Jean Gow. Glenn absolutely hated the name Peter and this is the one and only time we will speak of it here. Glenn was the younger of two children. Glenn's family moved west to Port Coquitlam in 1961. Glenn attended PoCo Jr/Sr high school. It was at this time that Glenn met a young 15 year old beauty named Dorial Klock, on a blind date. In 1965 they were married and moved to Bellingham, Washington where Glenn went to work in his fathers tire shop. This turned out to be a short stay however, when they found out the US government wanted to draft him for the Vietnam War. Glenn and Dorial both decided it would be best to move back to Canada. Back on the west coast Glenn soon found work with Griffs Lumber. In 1967 their first son Gordon was born followed a couple of years later by his brother Michael. They remained in Port Coquitlam until 1974 then Glenn packed up his family and moved to Dawson Creek. In '75 Glenn went to work at Northland Utilities as a meter reader. Even though the company changed its name several times eventually coming to it's present name of Pacific Northern Gas Glenn stayed for 27 years and earned his gasfitter certification. Glenn started to become active in the community soon after joining Northland. He loved to play fast-pitch and played for many years. He was also very involved in activities with the boys helping to coach their little league teams, helping out with youth bowling and was a boy scout leader for several years. One of the great joys for Glenn was playing the role of Santa at the Dawson Mall as well as at some Northland Christmas parties. In 1991 he joined the Dawson Creek Lions Club and held many different positions including club secretary, director, regional and zone chairman, club president and ultimately becoming District Governor. Glenn was awarded many appreciation certificates and awards including Lion of the Year and the Judge Brian Stevenson Fellow award. After retiring from PNG, Glenn and Dorial purchased the lotto booth in the Dawson Mall in 2004. Glenn was predeceased by his parents George and Eva Jean. He is survived by Dorial, his loving wife of 45 years, his two sons Gordon and Michael, his daughter-in-law Tara, grandson Koltan, his sister Lois and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Glenn passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in Dawson Creek, BC at the age of 66 years. A funeral service was held Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 2:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel; Bev Dunsmore officiated; Interment will be at a later date.
