Obituary of Ronald Waldie

Ronald William Waldie was born in the Pouce Coupe Hospital on March 29, 1943. Ron lived his entire life in or near the Dawson Creek area, except for a brief period of time when he and his wife, Elaine, moved to Armstrong, B.C. Ron was raised on the Waldie farm by his Grandma Waldie and grew up with his Uncle Alex who treated Ron like his little brother and taught him about farming and horses. Ron met his wife Elaine in 1963 and they began their life together on February 1, 1964. They raised two sons, Micheal and Brian. Ron enjoyed working on the farm, as a young man he worked for other people as a farmhand. Ron worked many years as a truck driver for the Department of Highways and when he retired from trucking he was working for Node's Construction in Pouce Coupe, BC. Ron never needed an excuse to enjoy time outdoors. Ron enjoyed fishing and hunting and get-togethers with his friends and family for barbeques and parties. Ron and Elaine spent happy weekends and sometimes stayed as long as a week at their favourite camping spot, Swan Lake, which Ron fondly called Swamp City. Many times they parked at Les Dayus' cabin and met with friends in the Swan Lake campground. Ron would take his dog along so that Elaine would have something to look after while he was fishing. One of the things Ron took pleasure in doing was woodworking and he was very proud of a workshop/garage he built almost completely from recycled materials. Ron's son Brian recalls spending hours pulling nails while helping his Dad recycle some of those materials. At that time Ron and Elaine made their home on their acreage near the south end of McQueen's Slough. Ron used his woodworking skills there and he worked with Elaine to make their home comfortable by building cabinets and making other things for their home and acreage. In later years Ron took pleasure in making lawn and picnic furniture as well as yard ornaments. Elaine enjoyed helping Ron do woodwork and still has some things they worked on together. Ron wanted to keep things simple and so he requested that his passing be honoured simply and the family will be holding a private service later in 2011 to spread Ron's ashes. Ronald passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in Dawson Creek at the age of 67 years. A celebration of life in memory of Ron was held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 between 2:00 and 4:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Pouce Coupe, BC. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Ron to the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Branch number 34, Pouce Coupe, BC. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
