Obituary of Joanne Roberts

Joanne Bernadette Roberts, a lifetime resident of Chetwynd, B.C, went to her final rest after a courageous battle with cancer on November 21, 2011 with her family and many friends at her side. Born in Dawson Creek B.C. August 9, 1960, Joanne was the firstborn daughter of Martin and Sheila Gerstel. She was sister to Carfrey (Cindy) Gerstel, Aubrey Gerstel (Janet Lawson), Joseph (Sandra) Gerstel, Janice (George) Malcolm, Norby (Katherine) Gerstel and Rowena Bryant (Dave Bennett). On November 21, 1981, Joanne was united in marriage to Ross Roberts and was his loving companion for 30 years. She was proud of her children Trina, Tyler, Samantha and Brandon. Joanne was very active in her community, serving two terms on Chetwynd Council. She was very proud of the town of Chetwynd, and took special pride in the awards won for Communities in Bloom. Quintessential Quilters Guild was her passion, where she served as president. She always enjoyed quilting and made many quilts as gifts for all of her family and many friends. Joanne leaves to mourn her passing her husband Ross Roberts, children Trina (Drew) Jewison, Tyler (Chelsea) Roberts, step-daughter Samantha (Mike) Cupples, step-son Brandon Roberts and grandchildren Jared, JerriLynn, Kelsi, Owen, Savanna and Sierra. Joanne was predeceased by her parents Martin and Sheila Gerstel. She will be fondly remembered by of all her extended family of honorary step-father Norm Moorhouse, mother-in-law Doris Roberts, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews as well as all her friends and acquaintances. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Joanne at the Lake View Credit Union for Memorial Benches on the walking paths in her honour. A memorial service was held at the Chetwynd Baptist Church on Sunday, November 27th, 2011 at 2:30 PM Pastors Bill Evans, Charlie Parslow and Mary Parslow officiated.
