Obituary of Don Lewis Moore

Don was born on January 13th 1929 in Drumheller Alberta, to Herbert and Lillian Moore. Dad was the 6th child of a family of 8. Don spent his early years moving from different places; San Francisco, Southern Alberta, and many various places in the lower mainland of BC. In his early 20's he settled in Dawson Creek where he worked for the W.O. Harper general store for 2 years, it later became part of HBC. During this time Dad met a little Czech girl named Doris Krassa at the Blue Bird cafe. Mom's first thought when she saw him was, "I wonder if he is married?" One year later on Feb. 5 1951, he was! On August 20, 1952 Dennis was born, then shortly after on July 1, 1953 along came Don. June 16, 1961 Darrell was born; they soon moved back to Dawson Creek where dad continued to work for the Bay for the next 30 years. In the early 60's dad received Jesus in his heart and became an active member in his church and community. He really enjoyed volunteering his time and abilities with the cub scouts, Kiwanis, the commercial hockey league and the Dawson Creek Canucks. In 1980 dad decided to take a new job at Canfor in Chetwynd, where he worked for 14 years as a night watchman. This gave mom and dad the opportunity to move out to dad's mothers homestead in East Pine. There mom and dad built a new home, and it became the hub for many family gatherings and the place where many wonderful memories were made. The grand-kids learned how to ride horses, drive cars and tractors, and play with all kinds of animals (like the ever abundant changing number of dogs). We all have so many memories of reunions, wiener roasts, and BBQ's. Mom and Dad moved back to Dawson Creek in 1997 to their cozy home up in Fireside Glen. Don was a wonderful man with qualities that we can only hope to emulate. His strong sense of loyalty and work ethic was extremely important to him and was given and passed on to all of us. He had a great gift of hospitality and it was so easy for him to show affection to all. He may have slowed down in later years but he was never slow with a cup of coffee and a hug. Dad always supported his family in whatever their endeavours may be. He watched many hockey games, basketball tournaments, speed skating meets, and dance recitals. He was always the grand kids biggest fan. He was forever involved in the never ending family building projects of all of his sons; like houses, sheds, fences, and playhouses for the grandkids. We always bugged dad about how many sheds he had, there was a spot on the farm that had four sheds in a row and he often told us to look for something in the middle shed go figure. In the midst of all of our building projects dad would have a great many sayings, like, if we couldn't agree about something he would say, "a man on a galloping horse will never see it!" So I guess it meant it was good enough. Us boys would love to give our dad a hard time, we were relentless. But he loved it and we all laughed together. Dad's greatest blessing here on earth was when he met his wife of 61 years, our mom. Mom really took her vows to heart especially in sickness and in health. Dad would want us boys on his behalf to say how much she meant to him. He would want to us to thank her for her unconditional love and for being such a loving devoted wife. It was her strength of faith that enabled her to deal with dad's failing health. Mom, you met these challenges head on with such tenderness Thank you mom for taking care of dad. When we begin to talk about dad's legacy he would want us to remember that the greatest legacy is the saving grace of Jesus Christ. It is because of this legacy we know that we will see dad again. Don a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in Dawson Creek, at the age of 83 years. A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Peace Mission Chapel, in Progress, BC. Pastor Lee Stephenson officiated. Interment will be at a later date. Don was pre-deceased by his father, mother, step-father Charles Foss, his brothers Raymond, Fred, Clarence, and sister Helen. Don is survived by his loving wife Doris of 61 years, His Son's Dennis (Louise), Don (Judy), Darrell (Jenice), his Grandchildren Christopher (Carmen), Maryann (Richard), Benjamin (Natasha), Corrie (Sean), Vincent (Melissa), Elita (Travis), Jennifer (Lane) his Great-Grandchildren Denise, Hannah, Liam, Payton, and Rylan, and his sisters Louise, Ruth, and Florence.
