Obituary of Florence Emmaline Presley

Florence Presley, a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 in Dawson Creek at the age of 87 years. Florence was born on October 25, 1926 in Biggar, Saskatchewan. Later, the family moved near Meadowlake, SK to live along the Loon River where the family homesteaded. Mom loved to learn and to read so Grandpa Skinner told her the best book to read was the Bible, so she read the Bible. Mom listened to Manning's Gospel Radio program and was sent away for a Sunday School correspondence course. When Mom was seventeen, she accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savoir. What does this mean? Mom came to realize that Jesus is God, that God is Holy. She realized she was a sinner, she did not come up to God's standards and in this state she would not be able to enter heaven. Her lives desire was to do the will of her Lord and to tell others of their need to know Jesus as their Savoir. She continued to learn and study the Bible and put in practice God's principles. She married a man that loved the Lord. One of the many verses I remember Mom quoting was 'if you honor God, he will honor you', and it was normal for Mom to put God first in her life and to serve others. Our house was always full of people. Mom enriched her family's lives by bringing in many special need foster children. Mom made everyone comfortable in our home; many nights were enjoyed around her dining room table with both family and strangers. She was never too busy to ask people to come for supper, if they needed a place to stay for a day, or for a year. Mom's house was the Lord's and Mom kept the door open to all. Mom was concerned for the salvation of the neighborhood children and started an after school Bible class for them. She encouraged ladies to come to her home for a Bible study. She enjoyed other things like quilting, painting and doing many crafts. Mom was busy, but she always had time to spend with us kids. The smell of fresh bread still evokes memories of Mom and times we had together when we first arrived home from school. I praise God, that Mom and Dad loved the Lord and obeyed him. God has honored Mom, in that she has been given love. For many years Mom has been in a care home, but my Dad continued going to the home every day and feeding her lunch until he went to be with the Lord in September of 2009. How we have missed having conversations with Mom and so many times would have loved to hear her talk. This is our last goodbye to Mom on earth, but we are looking forward to seeing her again. Our family would like to thank the workers and staff at Rotary Manor for the love and excellent care of Florence during her long illness with Alzheimer's. Florence was predeceased by her husband Howard Presley. Florence is survived by her children; Ed Presley (Marlene), Lois Wooden (Wayne), and Manard Presley (Alice), along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Wayne Wooden officiated. Interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery, Dawson Creek. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Florence to the Rotary Manor 1121-90 Avenue, Dawson Creek, B.C. V1G 5A3. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium
