Obituary of Gordon Arthur Klimp

Gordon Arthur Klimp 1929 - 2014 Gordon Arthur Klimp Sr. also known as Gordie, resident of Valleyview, Alberta, and formerly of Dawson Creek, BC, passed away on April 12, 2014 at 84 years of age. Gordon was born in Camrose, Alberta on June 24, 1929 to Arthur and Mary Klimp and was the second child and the oldest son of 10 children. The family lived in rural Southern Alberta and in his early years, Gordon worked alongside his father and brothers clearing land and farming. Gordon was a hardworking man and always loved the challenge of hard work. In the 1950s he went to work logging, trucking and sawmilling in the Tupper, BC area, which led to working throughout Northern BC, and the Yukon, driving truck, cat skinning and working in all aspects of the oil and gas industry. After that, he owned his one company Klimps Building Moving.' In 1986, Gordon began contracting logging and trucking for Louisiana Pacific OSB plant in Dawson Creek, BC, and worked there until his retirement. Gordon was a handy man and enjoyed carpentry, masonry work and working in his shop, fixing machines. One of Gordon's biggest accomplishments was learning to square dance, and he was proud to be a member of the Alaska Hi-way Square Dancers. In his later years, Gordon moved to Valleyview to be closer too, and reconnect with his siblings. There, he became a member of the Sunvalley Seniors Drop In Centre, and spent time participating in numerous senior's activities. Gordon is predeceased by his wife Lila, parents Art and Mary Klimp, brothers Kenny, Vernon, Donald and Marvin, sisters Inez and Olive, and special friend Maria. He is survived and fondly remembered by his daughter Maggie, sons Gordie Jr. (Linda), and George, as well as David, who was like a son to Gordon, grandchildren Tammy, Angie, Daniel, Terence and Candice, great-grandchildren Tyler, Samantha, Kristopher, Dylan, Bryan, Nicholas, Jaxson, Elizabeth and Haylie, great-great-grandchild Andre, brother Rod (Joyce), sisters Alice (Joe), and Shirley (Adolph), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Dawson Creek City Cemetery, Dawson Creek, BC. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Sunvalley Pioneer Drop in Centre, Valleyview, Alberta. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Gordon, may be made by way of donation to the Canadian Cancer Society' 1000 - 105 Avenue, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 2L4
