Obituary of JAMES ALEXANDER MURDOCH

JAMES ALEXANDER MURDOCH 1933 - 2014 James Alexander Murdoch, better known as "Scotty" passed away peacefully at Rotary Manor on May 5, 2014 at 80 years of age. Scotty was the second child born to parents Alexander and Daisy Murdoch of Dalmellington, Ayr in Scotland. Scotty or as his family in Scotland knew him "Jimmy" was preceded by both his parents and his sister Joy Murdoch. Scotty immigrated to Canada as a young man and started his career as a carpenter in the Vancouver area and then moving to Dawson Creek in 1960. He worked on many large projects such as the W.A.C. Bennett Dam and the Peace Canyon Dam in Hudson Hope. Scotty went to where the work was Mackenzie, Taylor, Tumbler Ridge, Peace River, to name a few but always loved to be" back home" at his house in Dawson Creek. He worked many years with Tom Best. They became a team, never wanting to work without the other. Always discussing the job and was happening or should be happening on the job! Scotty became very good friends with Tom and his family. He was always part of any family gathering, may it have been a birthday, wedding, or even a horse show! He was especially close with Tom's daughter, Cindy. They became true friends always joking and bantering with each other but knowing they were always there for the other one in time of need. Scotty loved the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed his hunting trips with his good friend Frank Gabriel and his sons. He had many stories of getting stuck with his truck and argo! As well stories of the moose or deer that got away! Scotty was also close with Frank's family and was part of their family gatherings. After some serious health issues in 2009, Scotty went to live at Rotary Manor Care Home where he was cared for by an amazing staff. He always enjoyed a hot cup of coffee and outings for a supper or just a drive. Scotty is fondly remembered by his close friends, Cindy &Terry Vyse and family, Frank & Agnes Gabriel and family and his cousins, Robert and Jean Hewitson in Scotland. Scotty had many friends in Canada and Scotland that will miss him. There are never enough words, nor time to do justice to a life. We may no longer see Scotty but we have shared moments to recall and we can all be grateful for having known him. Until we meet again.
