Obituary of Brian Anthony Johnson

Brian (Homer) Anthony Johnson was born February 29, 1948 in Pouce Coupe, British Columbia to parents Tony and Francis, the 4th of 10 children. Brian married the love of his life, Carolyn, in March, 1970. They had 2 sons, Bodie and Chad. Brian worked in the mill in Dawson Creek until 1976 and worked in the lumber industry until retirement. Brian was a strong, silent type, quiet, shy, and sensitive. People naturally gravitated to him. Homer was always willing to lend a hand. He was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back and always had time to chat. Brian was a big kid at heart with a love of camping, fishing, quadding, sledding, boating, and anything outdoors! Homer was the reason so many of us are into sledding and quadding. On trips, he was "one of the boys" until things got out of hand, then he was the voice of reason, our guardian, making sure we all got home safely. Brian was an avid sports fan and loved the Leafs and the Redskins. He was a man's man, not very domesticated, but when push came to shove, he planted flowers, the garden, and cooked and cleaned to Carolyn's standards. This brought on a bout of OCD that shocked us all. Brian was a proud dad to Bodie and Chad. Bodie, your dad admired you for your helpful nature and steadfast ways. He admired you, Chad, for your wild streak and carefree attitude. He had lots of chuckles over both of your shenanigans. Homer didn't realize how busy retirement would be. He was "grandpa daycare" to Drew, Jessie, and Kaylee. He spoiled the kids rotten. Brian shed a tear when Kaylee started kindergarten and was a familiar face at the hockey rink watching Drew and Jessie. In his last days, Brian cared for Carolyn, built a tree house for his grandkids, and was fixing his side-by-side. He was himself. He was amazing. Brian was one of a kind and I'm sure he is looking down on us, content his foundation of family and friends will carry on, drawing on the strength of his memory. Brian passed away peacefully July 23, 2014 at his home in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Brian will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Carolyn, sons Bodie (Rena) and Chad (Kathy), grandchildren Drew, Jesse, and Kaylee, siblings Wayne (Linda), Dale (Brenda), Penny, and Sandra, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. A memorial service was held July 28, 2014 at the Alliance Church in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, officiated by Reverend Marilyn Carroll. "What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven in the lives of others."
