Obituary of Caroline Fridriata Hogg

Carole Fridriata Hogg was born on the farm in Saskatchewan in February 1936. She was the second youngest in a family of 10 siblings, born to Adam & Regina Frey. Carole grew up on the farm in Saskatchewan until the family moved to Whitelaw, Alberta when she was 14 years old. Carole had an early finish to her formal education in Blue Sky, AB. Her love of music was cultivated while working in a record store in the town of Peace River in her early teens. Carole started her career as a switchboard operator in Fairview, AB. And then in 1954 she and some girlfriends moved to Dawson Creek, and continued working on the switchboard in the basement of the Bings furniture building. During that same summer she met Mel and they carried on a young person's romance, working/ dancing / partying, until they fell in love and got married in 1957. They lived first with Mel's parents, Vi and Barney, and as soon as possible they purchased a new house with Vi's wedding present of a down payment. Over time, while working and living and growing they managed to have 4 piglets: Dee, Del, Jane & Drew. Through the years of raising their family, of laughter & tears, joys & struggles, Carole was an anchor, she worked at various jobs, she was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, & don't forget domestic engineer. Carole & Mel nurtured many friendships and relationships that have endured through time as we see today. Carole kept her finger on the pulse of the community & country. She was very passionate in her views of her family, her community, and politics at all levels, and didn't shy away from the top two subjects to be avoided: politics and religion. Though Carole could be unyielding during a debate, she always hoped and prayed the best for everyone. She lived what she preached, stoic through years of many physical frailties. Though she leaves an emptiness in our lives, we are comforted in the knowledge that she is no longer suffering and is in a better place. Carole passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 in Dawson Creek, at the age of 78 years. A prayer service was held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 7:00 pm at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Dawson Creek, B.C. A funeral mass was held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Fr. Louis Kwena officiated. Interment will be at a later date. Carole was predeceased by her son; Drew. Carole is survived by her loving husband; Mel, sons; Dee (Sandra), Del (Jamie), daughter; Jane and grandchildren; Taylor, Aby, and Kacy. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Carole to the South Peace Hospice Palliative Care Society #3, 929-106 Avenue, Dawson Creek, B.C. V1G 2N8.
