Obituary of Thea Anea Christensen

Thea Christensen was born in Consort, Alberta on April 25th, 1933. She was the second child born to Olaf and Inaborg Frantzen, a sister for her older brother. Two more brother's subsequently entered the family. Thea was only four years old when tragedy hit the family with the passing of her mom, leaving her dad with four small children - the baby only 2 months old. Plans had already been made for the family to leave the Consort area and move to the Peace River country. Thea's mom knowing that she didn't have much time had arranged for a family friend to raise the baby. So with heavy hearts the family headed north. They settled in the Hythe, Valhalla area where Thea became the woman of the house. Her days of taking care of others began early. Thea baked her first batch of bread at the age of seven, it didn't turn out too well however she did improve with time. Thea grew up in the Hythe area. She attended Royal Banner School and during those years she formed lifelong friendships. Tragedy struck the family again when Thea was 17, a fire destroyed their home and her brother Floyd died in that fire. It was then that Thea decided to go to Edmonton to attend Bible school. It was a tough move and she was lonely. Thea worked at many different jobs. One was catering for large banquets, duties included doing dishes by hand for up to 500 people. She also worked for Weston Bakery & Alberta Poultry. It was here she met Henry. They were married in 1953. Two of their children were born in Edmonton. In 1958, they decided to make the move to Dawson Creek so Thea could be closer to her Dad & brother. Thea & Henry welcomed 3 more children into their family & Thea was a stay at home Mom until her youngest was in school. She then went to work for a car rental company for 15 years, also babysitting for several people. In 1986, she got a job at Northern Lights College. Thea loved this job because she got to interact with many different people. Thea loved her Lord above all else. She was involved in her church, serving happily wherever she was needed including teaching Sunday school for close to 40 years, along with many other activities such as being involved in the Women's Missions group, organizing church activities, on the board of Heritage Heights, quilting and Legacy Builders. She was also an active member of the Sons of Norway for many years. Thea retired from work in 1998 however she was never idle. She had many hobbies some of which were knitting, crocheting and baking. Thea's love of her life were her grandchildren & great grandchildren & she enjoyed spending time singing, reading & baking with all of them. Thea's home was always a warm, welcoming place and many enjoyed coffee & home baked goodies in her kitchen. Thea was diagnosed with cancer late in 2013 and she passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the age of 81 years with her family by her side. Thea leaves to mourn her passing her 5 children & their spouses, her 16 grandchildren & their spouses, 20 great grandchildren, 2 brothers & their families, numerous friends & extended family.
