Obituary of Hazel Viola "Grams" Beaulieu

Hazel Viola Beaulieu, a longtime resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015 in Dawson Creek at the age of 91 years. Hazel was born on December 15, 1923 in Fort Vermilion, Alberta to parents Narcisse and Mary Bellerose. Hazel was a loving and kind wife, mother and grandmother, and a loving sister. She was tolerant, patient, compassionate, happy, kind, strong, and truly devoted in her faith and belief of the Lord and Jesus Christ her savior. 'Grams' life was long but not at all an easy one, it was a hard life. She worked hard, grew up in a family of ten, lost her mother at a very young age, she worked her whole life and she had seven children of her own. She went to a small one room country school. In the winters they would have to travel on sleighs with strong horses leading, just to get to school. There were small potbellied stoves in the wagons to keep them all warm. Hazel could sit and play games, or work on crafts with all her grandchildren for hours. She would sing to her grandchildren at bedtime, "Jesus Loves the Little Children" and would sing it over and over until they fell asleep. Grams delicious baking was famous far and wide. Her cinnamon buns and bannock were just a couple of everyone's favorites. There was never a shortage of cinnamon buns and peanut butter sandwiches. Fresh snacks and homemade soups were always the order of the day. She was a true grandmother - as our fondest memories are of love and food! Hazel accepted and loved all her children, their spouses, and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom's care and love for us was unconditional and unbending, she would pray for all of us in times of sorrow and illnesses. She had a unique way of making all feel special. Holding her baby grandchildren in her arms - she had the most soothing, loving way about her. All the babies immediately felt loved, safe, and secure. She looked so at home with her grandchildren. Hazel's sister, Stella remembers her love of garage sales and her excitement for any old time functions, music, and dances held at the Fort (Fort Vermilion). The only thing stronger than Grams love for her family was her absolute spirituality. Her faith, more times than not, gave her strength to endure not only her hardships, but her children's too. She loved to write her favorite scriptures down all the time and would post them everywhere in the house. Hazel was devoted to her children, her home, and her husband. She did it all; she worked, she cooked, she cleaned, she ironed, she went to church. Grams has finished her last journey here with us. She would want us to know that she had to take this final road without us. She did not travel alone. God was with her all the way. She turns around, one last glance and smiles, "I have loved you all 'till the very last. Weep not for me, but courage take and love one another for my sake." Hazel was predeceased by her loving husband Edwin Beaulieu, her sons Ernest and Wallace, and her grandson Darrin. Left to remember her forever in their hearts: loving daughter Arlene (Jean-Luc), her sons; Clay, Harold (Henri), Stanley (Nita), and Garth, and her daughters-in-law Christina and Heather, as well as her sister Stella, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 1:00 PM from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Pastor Gordon Warriner officiated.
