Obituary of John McFarlane "Mac" Taylor

Mac died at his Arras, British Columbia residence on February 18, 2015. His family is so thankful to everyone in health care as well as friends who helped make it possible to fulfill his wish to be at home. Mac was born in Clinton, Ontario and grew up on a farm outside nearby Blyth. He attended the University of Guelph, graduating in 1958. He worked for McLaren's Advertising in Toronto and Montreal before moving to B.C. and obtaining his teaching certificate from U.B.C. In 1961, he moved to Dawson Creek and began teaching at the Junior Secondary School while also running the school dormitory. Mac then transferred to South Peace Senior Secondary School, where he helped develop and manage the Hudson School Farm starting in 1978. After twenty years of teaching, he left education to pursue opportunities in the private sector, first as a co-owner of a farm equipment dealership then as a distributor for steel buildings. Mac eventually returned to education, helping develop, launch and manage the Kiwanis Enterprise Centre, which opened in 1986. Mac retired after a further 10 years in the field. Throughout all this time, Mac cleared, developed and farmed land west of Dawson Creek and north of Fort St. John. Mac is survived by his wife Jayne, his children Anne, Adam and Graham and his grandchildren Anita, Olivia, Avea, Sarah and Jack. In Mac's memory, it is appreciated that any memorial contributions be directed to the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Oncology Unit.
