Obituary of Stanley Edward Breault

Stanley Breault, a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 in Dawson Creek at the age of 75 years. Stan was born on June 29, 1939 in Pouce Coupe to parents Edward and Amelia. Stanley was the youngest of four children; Gloria, June and Frank were his older siblings. Sadly, their father's life was cut short in 1943 when Stanley was only three years old. When Edward passed away, Amelia was left with four young children to raise. They had a house built on her parents' land, and Stanley and the other children started school at South Dawson. Living with their grandparents brought new challenges. June remembers Frank and Stanley finding many ways to tease their grandfather, including once when they plastered his bald head with wet newspaper while he slept. Stanley later attended Junior High by going on bus to Dawson Creek. In the summertime the boys often spent time with their Uncle Sam and Aunt Helen in Taylor where their Uncle taught them how to drive their first tractor. Stan worked in Taylor for the PGE Railway which later became BC Rail. This was a job he loved because he got to work closely with trains, his passion since he was a boy. He moved to Vancouver in the late 1950's to work at Woodward's Service Station. Back north, Stan met Mary Beaulieu and asked her out immediately. While dating, the couple sometimes had to take Mary's little brother Richard to the Ranch Drive-In with them. Stan and Mary were married in 1963. Stan soon started a 32 year career with the City of Dawson Creek, working as a labourer with the Water and Sewer Department. When the first real machinery arrived Stan became the principal operator of the big 1973 Vac Truck. He was known as a hard worker who was always ready to go. Mayor at the time, Blair Lekstrom, commented at Stan's retirement ceremony that he would always be remembered for his willingness to report for a call out anytime of the night. Stan and Mary proudly welcomed the arrival of their two boys: Michael in 1964 and Bryan in 1966. The boys remember a loving and action-packed childhood. Stan instilled the love of sports in the boys and they both excelled in football in their late teens. Stan and Mary enjoyed visiting the Skagit Valley Tulip Fesitval, just across the border from Vancouver in Washington. On his first visit there about 20 years ago, he spent time looking at the machinery they used to tend the fields and was fascinated by the work required to plant the over 300 acres of tulips. He returned many times over the years. Stanley and Mary always went to so many significant events in their family's lives like important birthdays, graduations, weddings, and anniversaries. Family was the center of their lives. Mike and Bryan eventually found partners and Mary and Stan moved happily into the role of grandparents. They were beyond proud of their grandchildren; MacKenzie, Paige, Colby, and Kaelin. They forged unique relationships with each. By this time, Mary had struggled with arthritis for many years and Stan was her dedicated caregiver. Her passing in 2007 left the entire family devastated but for Stan, he had lost the love of his life. Stan's boys and his grandchildren brought his solace during the subsequent years. His face would light up with joy upon seeing them. In the summer of 2014 Stan was diagnosed with stomach cancer. In January 2015 Stan moved into Rotary Manor. Despite the uncertainty ahead, he was positive and good natured. He was quite content, comfortable and, he was incredibly brave. He will be lovingly remembered, and we now picture him twirling Mary around the dance floor in the sky, dressed in their finest, their faces glowing with smiles. Stanley was predeceased by his parents Edward and Amelia Breault, his loving wife Mary, his oldest sister Gloria, his Aunt Joyce Torio, sister-in-law Ray Beaulieu, brother-in-law Fred Walchi, and his cousin Richard Torio. A Funeral Service was held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the South Peace United Church, Dawson Creek. Reverend Marilyn Carroll officiated. Interment followed in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
