Obituary of Kathleen Charlotte King

Kathleen was quite the lady. She was born Kathleen Charlotte MacGregor on the 21st of February, 1938 in Hughenden, Queensland, Australia. Her school years were mainly spent at boarding school until grade 12, where she enjoyed playing basketball. Her early working life was in her home town as an accountant, this is where Kathleen met the love of her life, Bevan King. Kathleen and Bevan were married June 8, 1963 in Brisbane, Australia. Kathleen and her husband settled down in Springshure, Australia where their 2 eldest daughters Tracey and Joann were born. The family immigrated to Canada in August 1969, where they settled down in Edmonton, started their new adventure together and welcomed the birth of their 3rd child, Pamela. In June 1971 they moved to Whitehorse in the Yukon, where Kathleen worked for the education department. In March 1978 they moved to Cassiar, BC where she owned a womans clothing store for 5 years and then finally to Pouce Coupe, BC in 1987 in the home that they have now. When Kathleen first moved here she purchased a hair salon on 10th Street in Dawson Creek and ran that for a couple of years, but her passion was with animals so she purchased the pet grooming business. Kathleen spent the next 25 years successfully operating "4" Paws Grooming and getting to know the animals and the community. To her it was an enjoyment not a job! She had some interesting well used sayings: "to err is human to forgive is canine", "in like a tramp out like a champ", and "life is like a chair sit anywhere you please". Kathleen retired in 2013. Kathleen became a grandmother in February of 1992 when Elizabeth was born and again in April of 1994 when Jasmine was born. She loved her granddaughters so much and always bragged about them. She was fond of telling people heaven is a place where all the animals you ever loved come to greet you. She will be lucky to make it through the final gate because of all the cats and dogs overwhelming her WOW! One of Kathleen's favourite things in life was listening to Boney M at Christmas time. Her favourite holiday was Easter. She enjoyed eating crab when they went out for dinner, she loved hummingbirds, frogs and loved fireweed. She and Bevan have taken a few trips back to Australia to visit family and friends over the years. They also went back to the Yukon to re-live fond memories and visit acquaintances. We have known her as being outspoken and kind hearted; she would do anything for her friends, family and her church; a generous lady, friend and community volunteer. Kathleen was an active member of the Christ Church. She enjoyed organizing the bazaar and baking in Pouce for the Christ Church Christmas Craft sale. Kathleen also enjoyed attending concerts in Dawson Creek: Rita McNeil and Celtic Thunder. She always made sure she attended the senior's bingo events in both Pouce Coupe and Dawson Creek regularly. We are so fortunate that Kathleen and her family chose BC, Canada and the Peace Country to share their talents and generosity with us all. She was a good friend both during sunny days and during those days and weeks of cloud and rain, but despite the outside weather, the days spent with Kathleen always shared sunlight with those around her. If her friends could appreciate time with her and translate it into flowers we would be enjoying the blooms and colours for years to come. She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband Bevan, her pets, her daughters, her son in law, her grandchildren, her family overseas, her friends and her church family. Service 4:00 pm Saturday, May 9, 2015 Anglican Christ Church 4919 48th ave POUCE COUPE, British Columbia, Canada
