Obituary of Phyllis Isabelle Dolen

Phyllis Dolen, a long time resident of Taylor, B.C. passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015 in Wembley, Alberta at the age of 82 years. Phyllis Isabelle was born on March 10, 1933, the third daughter to Isabelle and Clyde Richmond. Phyllis and her older sisters, Ruth and Betty, grew up on a farm in North East Calgary. Ruth and Betty usually took care of the domestic duties, while Phyllis tended to the outdoor chores. After her father died in 1939, and her mother sold the dairy cows, there was little for Phyllis to do around home so she went to work for a local family cooking, cleaning, and taking care of their five children. She remembers her second day on the job preparing supper, and she had to go out to ask the farm hand how to boil potatoes. Phyllis left home in 1948. She spent about a year working for an orphanage type home in Edmonton taking care of 12-14 children at a time. From there, she lived in Saskatchewan, Grande Prairie, and Dawson Creek. Phyllis had eight children; Brian was born in 1950, Jay Dee in 1956, Wade in 1957, a set of twins were born in 1959 (two girls, one named Marian), Doug and Lucille came in 1960, and Darrell was born in 1966. Phyllis married Clarence Sorell in 1958 in Dawson Creek, and they moved to Fort Nelson where they lived until his death in 1972. A couple years later, in 1974 Phyllis married Eugene Dolen, and increased her family with three stepsons; Gary, Stuart, and Kelly. Shortly after, they moved to Sunny Acres at Moberly Lake. In 1976 they moved to Cameron Lake where they lived for many happy years. Phyllis and Gene spent several years working around the Chetwynd and Moberly Lake areas fixing houses and doing renovations. In 2007, Phyllis and Gene moved from the farm and they decided on a nice piece of property in Taylor. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Isabelle and Clyde, her sisters Ruth and Betty, her first husband Clarence, and her twin daughters. Phyllis is survived by her husband Eugene, her children: Brian (Edith), Jay Dee (Wanda), Wade (Cheryl), Doug (Melva), Lucille (Robbie), Darrell (Michelle), and stepsons Gary (Linda), Stuart (Carol), and Kelly (Lisa), along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Celebration of Phyllis' Life was held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Taylor Community Hall. Captain Brian Beveridge officiated. Interment will be at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Phyllis to the CNIB, #100, 490 Quebec Street, Prince George, B.C. V2L5N5. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium
