Obituary of Helen Mae Sajtovich

Helen Sajtovich: April 10, 1933 - July 16, 2015 Helen Mae Sajtovich was born on April 10, 1933 in East End Hospital, Saskatchewan to parents Ouida Miller and Earl Taylor. As the sixth of nine children, she quickly learned the importance of family and good housekeeping, laying the foundation for the family-oriented person that she would later become. Following the completion of high school in East End, Helen began working at the local bank, which motivated her to later move on to a bookkeeping position at Union Tractor in Calgary. In 1957, her friend June Wills convinced her to come to Dawson Creek, where she met her loving husband John Sajtovich. John Sajtovich and Helen Taylor were married on November 9th, 1959 in Helen's hometown. They then returned to Baytree, Alberta to create their life together. In the community, Helen enjoyed curling where she played lead, as well as her responsibilities as a member of the Baytree Women's Club. Despite her enjoyment of social events, she soon immersed herself in motherhood, giving life to Dwight, Paul, Dean, Peter, and Susan. As a mother, Helen was determined, meticulous, and thoughtful. Her children warmly remember her conscientiousness, as well as her carefully crafted meals which were legendary beyond the Sajtovich household. For Helen, cooking was not only an area of prowess, but a method of expressing herself and her love. She took pride in creating meals with perfect presentation, flavour, and timing, to which her entire family looked forward to during the Holidays. Helen was also an avid reader in addition to being an excellent cook, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved mysteries and thrillers, although their sinister nature never crept into her disposition. She was always eager to carry on conversation whenever family or friends visited and took an intense interest in the lives of her grandchildren. No visit could ever be long enough at Helen's home. For Helen Sajtovich, her legacy will be one where kindness always surpassed her austerity. Helen was predeceased by her parents Ouida and Earl Taylor; son Dwight; siblings Jack (Arlene) Taylor, Norm (Pat) Taylor, Marjorie (Edward) Humphrey, Ruth Taylor, Donald (Verna) Taylor, Glen Taylor, and Robert Taylor; in-laws Anne (Nick) Kulachkosky, John Blake, and Evelyn Sajtovich; and grandchildren Kyle Sajtovich and Chelsey Barber. She will be forever loved and missed by her husband, John; her sons Paul, Dean (Mary Anne), Peter (Leanne); daughter Susan (Andy) Lafleur; grandchildren Calvin, Todd (Angela), Candace (Darren), Megan (Matt), Samantha, Victoria, Jessica, and Mark; great grandchildren Austin, Laura, Kira, Waylon, and Adalyn; brother Gary (Bev) Taylor; brother-in-law Mike Sajtovich; sister-in-laws Audrey Taylor, Mary (Walter) Kulachkosky, and Margaret (Bob) Lowther; and numerous nieces and nephews.
