Obituary of George Joseph Avramovich

George Joseph Avramovich, resident of northeast Rolla, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Dawson Creek Hospital. He was 84 years old. George was born on the original Avramovich homestead 11 miles northeast of Rolla on February 17, 1931. He was the first born to Joseph and Anna Avramovich. George developed a love for the farm that stuck with him throughout his life. As a young man, he pitched bundles on his dad's and Mike Kilarowski's thrashing crew. His interest in tractors and machinery was a result of watching his father working on them. This served him well later when he worked on construction jobs in the far north. George went to school at West Pouce Coupe. Some who attended with him were Ken and Lyle Braden, Jenny, Leonard, Olga and Julia Rudy, the Campbell girls, and Geraldine Clark. He had to walk to school 2 miles one way which was quite a feat for a six year old. He took high school by correspondence. When his father passed away, George farmed on his own. At this time, he started working in the winter months for Bruce Roam Construction and later for Ken Borek Construction. He farmed together with Norman and Sherrold Braaten, Bruce Wilson, and Leonard and Rick Rudy. He also looked after the Vipond's home for many years. He liked old-time country music and had a special interest in flying and attended as many air shows as possible. As a youngster he built many model planes. He also started ground school for flying. On some occasions, he flew with his friend, Russell Braaten. George enjoyed visiting and having coffee with his neighbours and his special bachelor friend, Vince Pullar. He also looked forward to the Christmas gatherings at Debbie Rudy's place. When in town, he enjoyed time spent with the Vesaniemi and Ross families, and all his friends from the Seventh Day Adventist Church. We will always remember George sitting in his rocking chair with his cat on his lap and watching T.V. George was predeceased by his father and mother. He is survived by his sister, Annie Avramovich and will be fondly remembered by Annie and his many friends.
