Obituary of Leonard Harold Singer

Len was born in New Westminster, B.C. and grew up in the lower mainland with his family in Cloverdale. He was always interested in cars as most of us know. He married Marjorie Mack in Whalley on November 11, 1961, and brought four children into the world. We all moved around a lot in the first 10 years, until we settled as a family in Grand Forks in 1973. Len was a truck driver and belonged to the Teamsters Union. He drove a big Mack truck for Dawson Construction and did some construction work. When he settled in Grand Forks, he got on with the Department of Highways driving truck (our driveway was always clear of snow in the winter). In the early eighties he divorced Marge and went on his own for a few years until he met Joyce Baker. He spent the good part of twenty years with Joyce and helped raise her daughter, Kimberly. They lived in the lower mainland and he worked for Gordy at Newton Septic, driving truck once again. When the grandchildren started arriving Len learned to be a patient, and loving Grandpa. He spent a lot of time with Kim's three daughters and talked with a lot of love about these girls with the rest of the kids. He also became very close with his sisters son; Jay, after she passed. Len spent time with Jay and his wife Henrietta and their boys. He was loving and kind with Jay and they both shared an interest in cars. Len always made an effort to remain in contact with so many friends and acquaintances. He would visit with old friends from as far back as the 70's. Just stop in for a coffee and a smoke. There are so many of us who will miss his presence here. This includes Brenda and Ricky Gerlach, Adam, Sandra & Shannon Mack, Barb Matthews, ex brothers and sisters in law, and so many more nieces and nephews. Len never really wanted to retire, but due to age, his sight was no longer good enough and his reaction time slowed. He continued his morning coffee at a local restaurant with various friends and then when life changed once again, he relocated to Pentiction with Joyce. They were there for a few years until Joyce needed further care and they moved to Ashcroft to be closer to her daughter. Len then separated from Joyce and moved to Grand Forks for a short time and then back to Penticton to be closer to his sister and nephew. His daughter Lenora moved him to Kelowna to help him with his health and shared some quality time together. Later he moved to Penticton for awhile and eventually joined his daughter again in Chetwynd, B.C. where he was placed in a care home. Rest in peace Dad we will all miss you! Leonard passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 in Chetwynd, B.C. at the age of 77 years. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, four brothers, and a sister. Len is survived by sisters; Gladys and Jeanne, children; Marie (Reg) Currie, Ron, Lenora, Sherri and step daughter; Kim, grandchildren; Evelyn Brush (Nick), Marc, Catherine, Joshua, Jesse, Grace, Abby and Libby. Cremation services were held at Reynars Crematorium. Interment will be at a later date. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
