Obituary of Paul Laboucan

Leonard Louis (Paul) Laboucan was born September 30, 1941 in High Prairie, Alberta. Paul was the seventh of eleven children to parents Mary (nee Ghostkeeper) and Charlie Laboucan. In 11953, Paul left High Prairie with his parents and siblings and moved to Dawson Creek. Later that year, he left to Grande Prairie, where he lived with his older sister, Martha and her husband Art. Martha remembers that Paul attended school and was quite popular at the local boxing club. At 15, Paul left school and boxing behind to pursue his first job at a chicken hatchery. Paul was not afraid of work, taking jobs at the mill and as a power saw operator, but is most fondly remembered for his self-taught carpentry skills. He spent a brief period of time in the army and was stationed in Edmonton as a cadet. Paul was an avid hunter, often bringing along his nieces and nephews and sharing his spoils with extended family. He has been described by his niece as a provider and prote4ctor. At the age of twenty-eight, Paul began his own family with spouse Lena Giroux. Together they raised two beautiful daughters, Martha and Pauline. After Lena and Paul's separation, he dedicated 20 years of his life to Vera Mattson. Then on December 3, 2001, Paul married his wife, Ivy Sinclair. Paul passed away quietly September 7 with his sisters, Martha and Madeline, and wife Ivy at his bedside. Paul is survived by his wife, Ivy; daughter Pauline; grandchildren Dakota, Kelly, Chyenne, Panther, Dylan, Xavier, and Todd; sisters Edith, Martha, Madeline, and Lorretta. He follows his parents, Mary and Charlie; brothers Fred, Tommy, Ernest, and Oscar; sisters Annie and Hellen; and daughter Martha. Paul was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by the family and all that knew him.
