Obituary of Charlie Walton Wheat

Charlie Wheat, a life-long resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in Dawson Creek at the age of 44 years. Charles Walton Wheat was born on February 4, 1971 in Burnaby, British Columbia. He was the fourth child to the family of Charles and Carolyn Wheat. Charlie lived in Fort Nelson for a year and a half, then moved with the family to Dawson Creek. He grew up on the farm and went to school in Dawson Creek. Charlie had many friends that he loved dearly, and who felt the same about him. He spoke kindly of his circle of friends. Charlie spent the last two years of his schooling in Africa at the International School of Moshi in Tanzania, where there were thirty-three graduates representing several countries. He was there with his parents, who were working on the Tanzania Canada Wheat Project at the time. When Charlie left Africa in 1990, he went to England and stayed with his grandmother then he went to different parts of Europe and toured with a friend. On one of these adventures, the boys were on a train and his friend got off but the doors closed before Charlie was able to disembark. One had the money, and the other had the passports. They did connect later on, and the first thing they did was decide to collect and carry their own money and documents. Charlie mentioned that trip often, as it was quite a memory for him. When he returned to Canada, he lived at the farm and took great pride in taking care of his Grandpa Walton until he passed in 1991. He enjoyed planting flowers of all kinds, even more than he enjoyed growing vegetables. When his grandfather passed, Charlie moved into his cabin where he's resided since then. Charlie went to Northern Lights College and took some courses. He also worked at the Child Development Centre home in Dawson Creek; he loved the men he worked with at the CDC home, Shawn and Tim, and the others that shared the home. Charlie loved people and he had many friends around this beautiful world. The open spaces of Africa, here in Canada and elsewhere were very dear to Charlie. He traveled far and wide, to England, France, other countries in Europe, to various places in the United States. Charlie went hot air ballooning in New Mexico, saw the Grand Canyon in Utah, and participated in family reunions in both Idaho and in Canada. At the reunion in 2007, he cooked for up to fifty people for three days, and then told everyone they were on their own. He enjoyed visits with both his friends and family. Charlie's love of life included: friends, painting, cooking, flowers and gardening vegetables. He helped with the Farmer's Market in Dawson Creek every year until his dad passed. Charlie was predeceased by his father; Charles, brother; Chuck, sister; Billie Fenner, grandparents; Dana and Edna Walton and Charles and Edith Wheat. Charlie is survived by his mother; Carolyn, sisters; Anna (Martin), Cathy, Chrystal, brothers; Christopher (Wendy), Russell, Carl (Emily), nieces; Christa, Shaylean, Kara, Kaymia, LiShayla, Alice, nephew; Charlie, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Canada, United States and England. Charlie's family would like to invite everyone to help celebrate his life on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Wheat Family Farm 9058 Road 207. Interment will be held at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Charlie to the South Peace Child Development Centre, 9001-10th Street, Dawson Creek, BC V1G 4T1.
