Obituary of Bevan Conrad King

Bevan Conrad King 1936-2015 Bevan was born October 3, 1936 in Gympie, Australia to Conrad and Phyllis King. He was raised on a dairy farm where they milked 65 cows morning and night. They also had 1000 laying hens and some pigeons. He left the farm at the age of 15, quit school and started land clearing. Bevan and Kathleen were married June 8, 1963 in Brisbane, Australia where their two eldest daughters, Tracey and Joann, were born. The family immigrated to Canada in August, 1969 where they settled down in Edmonton and started their new adventure. In 1971, they welcomed their third child, Pamela. In June of 1971, they moved to Whitehorse, Yukon where Bevan worked for Finning for approximately seven years. He was introduced to hunting in the mountains and soon became an avid hunter. In March, 1978 they moved to Cassiar, BC where he was the service manager for Finning, then finally to Pouce Coupe, BC in 1987, working for Finning and Quintette Coal. Bevan's first grandchild, Elizabeth, was born in February of 1992 and Jasmine in April, 1994. Bevan had started to write his own memoirs. He wrote: "In the spring of 1974, I made a trip to Salt Lake City in Utah to meet P O Ackley who was a gun maker and rifle barrel builder. I had been interested in learning to make rifle barrels and get information on how to build or where to purchase barrel making equipment. It took me quite a few years to make the equipment in my spare time and purchase some tooling before I made any barrels. I made several more trips down to Ackley's and he taught me how to drill the barrel steel and ream the bore and button rifle the barrels. I made my first barrels about 1980." Over the years, Bevan has become very well known around the world for his barrel making skills and his knowledge of guns. Bevan and Kathleen liked to travel. They took a bus trip across Canada, spent time exploring the Northwest Territories, several trips back to Australia, and summer holidays to the States. Bevan loved to go hunting, camping, fishing and boating, but at the end he liked spending time with his family watching movies, tv shows, and sharing his stories. A memorial service was held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Christ Church Anglican in Pouce Coupe, BC, officiated by Father Tim Johnson. Arrangements were entrusted to Bergeron Funeral Services and Crematorium Ltd. Service 2:00 pm Saturday, October 17, 2015 Anglican Christ Church 4919 48th ave POUCE COUPE, British Columbia, Canada
