Obituary of Raymond Theodore "Ray" Weipert

Ray Weipert, a long time resident of Dawson Creek and area passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in Doe River, B.C. at the age of 71 years. Ray was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on May 18, 1944 and was the first of twelve children born to Ted and Alice Weipert. A few years later, the family settled in Doe River. As a young man, Ray enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, and speed skating. He began working at a young age in the fields for local farmers; that became the start of his love for working on the land. He then began working on power lines in Southern Alberta for Sunrise Construction with his brother Bob. In 1966 Ray met the love of his life, Fern, and were married soon after. Ray and Fern later had Royce, the oldest of three children. They moved to Watson Lake where Ray worked for CNT. The family of three moved back to Dawson Creek and became a family of five with the arrivals of Kim and Darren. In 1984 Ray and the family moved to Surrey, B.C. and he became a long haul trucker in Canada and the US. Moving back to Dawson Creek in the early 90's Ray went back to logging with his son Darren. Tragically, Darren was killed in an accident in 1993. Ray and Fern then moved back to the Lower Mainland, as Royce and Kim lived there. Ray returned to highway driving working for different trucking companies. They then moved to Vancouver Island for a short period, later returning to Dawson Creek where they lived in town until they bought their current farm in Doe River. In 1997, their family was blessed with the first of three grandsons, Morgan. Austin and Mitchell followed. He was absolutely the best Grandpa. Ray was predeceased by his son Darren, his father Ted, his brothers Brian and Gary, his brothers-in-law: Lyle, Calvin, and Tom, and his nephew Denny. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Fern, their children Royce and Kim (Nick), grandsons: Morgan, Austin, and Mitchell, his mother Alice, his siblings: Bob, Orville (Marion), Melvin (Alma), Marilyn, Gale (Myles), Cathy (Wayne), Doris, Kevin (Nina), and Barry (Reyna), sisters-in-law: Marilyn (Don), Annette, Karen, Angela (Kerry), and Valerie (Blair), along with numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Ray's Life was held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the South Peace United Church, Dawson Creek, B.C. Reverend Marilyn Carroll officiated. Interment will be at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Raymond to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. & Yukon 1480-7th Avenue, Prince George, B.C.
