Obituary of Brent Morgan Smith

Brent Morgan Smith was born on July 30, 1963 in Quesnel, BC to Dalvin and Avon Smith. He was the youngest of five siblings to Opal, Ron, Julie, and Richard. Brent is fondly remembered by his loving wife Cheryl, Opal and husband Wayne, Ron and wife Jan, Julie and husband Ivan, and Richard and wife Ingela, son Rory and his girlfriend Jade, daughter Darilyn, son Thane and his girlfriend Sarah, and son Allister. Brent is predeceased by his father Dalvin, and his sister-in-law Karen Smith. Brent grew up in Fort St. John, BC. In 1981 Brent left to Western Pentecostal Bible College in Abbotsford, BC to begin his theological degree. Brent and Cheryl met that September, while she was in her second year of schooling. They started dating shortly after and six weeks later were engaged. The following year, October 9th Brent and Cheryl began their lives together. On November 17th, 1985 Brent and Cheryl had their first child, Rory Michael Smith. A few years later the three of them moved to Dawson Creek as Brent got a job offer to begin pastoring at Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle. On March 13th, 1990 Darilyn Grace Smith came into their lives. After Brent left Bethel, he worked as a Faller in the forestry industry with his dad. His next venture led him to work at South Peace Secondary School as a teacher's aide, although his title from many teachers was Bouncer.' On January 19th, 1994 Brent, Cheryl, Rory, and Darilyn said hello to a new little boy, Thane Morgan Smith. After working for South Peace, Brent found his calling at Independent Networking Services as a Behavioural Consultant. Throughout the years, Brent and Cheryl opened their hearts to many other children in need of a loving home. On January 15th, 2000 another little beautiful baby boy was born. On Thane's birthday, the 19th, Allister Gabriel Smith became the fourth and final child that completed the Smith family. And as Brent would always say, "He was the cuuuutest baby"-with total disregard for the other children's feelings. Brent had many hobbies that he enjoyed. One which he loved to play and watch was of course hockey, a sport which gave him so much joy, and even led him to the name of his second born son. It was after a late night hockey game, Brent returned home to Cheryl to say he had played against a real jerk but that he loved the guy's name, Thane. Brent was a sports guy-loved playing tennis with friends and with his kids, playing baseball, tossing around a football, and the game he loved watching the most was football, more specifically the NFL. His favourite team was the Denver Broncos, and every Sunday he would call up his great friend, Bill Diehl to make fun of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brent loved nature and the outdoors, just like his father. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, quading. His favourite board game was Monopoly, and he was an avid shopper, especially when it came to shoes. Brent had a great appreciation for jewellery, and in the past few years he began bidding on and collecting jewellery to sell. Brent loved food-spaghetti and meatballs or steak and lobster would tie for his favourite meal. Some of his most favoured books included The Velveteen Rabbit, Where the Wild Things Are, The Lord of the Rings, and all works by Capstick. This list could go on and on, for Brent just loved life, and as such there weren't many things he didn't love. For 33 beautiful years Brent and Cheryl lived a fairy tale. Their love was unreal. In the face of immense hardships their love never wavered. They still looked at each other with that sparkle in their eyes, as if they were still living in those six weeks of whirlwind dating. For 33 years they lived the best example of what a marriage truly is; they held each other in trust, in respect, in love. Brent had wonderful qualities that he shared and nurtured in others. He was non-judgemental, he had an unconditional love for people, a wonderful sense of humour, he was a strong advocate for anyone who needed him, and he had the most positive outlook on life. As Brent would always say, "It's a great day to be alive."
