Obituary of Michael Anthony Murray

Michael Anthony Giroux was born on March 26, 1962 in Dawson Creek, B.C. six months later, he became a foster child to Dan and Helen Murray. He attended Devereaux Elementary in Arras, B.C., from 1970-1976. He attended Central Junior Secondary from 1977 until he quit in grade 10 to begin working for Borek Construction as a Heavy Machine Operator. Ten years later, he worked for Nodes Construction as a Heavy Machine Operator. Due to a dune buggy accident, Mike was forced to retire from the construction business. He lived in Dawson Creek until his mother's passing in December 2010, where he moved to Vancouver, B.C. Mike was diagnosed with mouth cancer in February 2011. He had radiation and chemotherapy and in 2013, he moved back to Dawson Creek. He found a place to stay in an apartment, where he became friends with many of the residents. Later in 2013, Mike began getting sick again. He went to Prince George, B.C. and was diagnosed with lung cancer, which had also spread into his left shoulder. In June 2015, Mike was given six months to live. He always said "I feel great! it's just this darn shoulder" whenever his sister Lisa would ask how he was. Mike went into the hospital when his shoulder collapsed, as he leaned over on October 10, 2015. His close friend and the apartment manager; Dale Delayen, took him into the hospital. Dale faithfully came every day or two to visit Mike, as well as his sister Lisa. A few friends and family members visited him over the month and half he was in the hospital. Michael passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 in Dawson Creek, B.C. with his sister Lisa by his side at the age of 53 years. Michael was predeceased by his father; Daniel Thomas Murray in September 1991, mother; Helen Cecelia Murray in December 2010, and his oldest brother; James Patrick Murray in September 2011. A memorial service was held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 12:00 pm at Reynars Funeral Home, Father Louis Kwena officiated. Interment followed in the City Cemetery, Dawson Creek.
