Obituary of Helen Caroline Julia Breti

Helen Breti, a long-time resident of Farmington, B.C.passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. on Thursday,February 4, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Helen's life journey began in a log house located in the rural community of Parkland, British Columbia. Helen Caroline Julia Strasky was born to George and Maria Strasky on June 17, 1938. She was raised on the farm, went to the one room Parkland School and finished her high school in Dawson Creek. After graduation, Helen entered Business College and graduated from there in May of 1957. She worked for a short time at a local bank and was then hired to work as the bookkeeper at McKenzie's Stationers. Helen had come a long way; from a log house located in a rural area to the bright lights of Dawson Creek. She was raised without the benefit of electricity, no running water, only central heating, no television or telephone, and for some of her early life, no Alaska Highway. Helen turned out to be a very resourceful and determined person. Joe came to work in Dawson Creek for a few weeks in 1960 and never left. Joe was the Mr. "Fix-It" at his board house where he met Helen. Not the usual romantic circumstance, but it worked. It wasn't long before they were inseparable. They were married on November 5, 1960 and lived in Farmington. They got by, and slowly together they made things happen and built a new house in 1962. Their first child, Roseann was born in 1962 followed by Diane in 1964. Family was everything to Helen, she was very proud of her girls. Of course the grand and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She expressed her love through her nurturing, generosity, and understanding. She was also known for her outgoing conversational nature. She loved to visit. Helen's kitchen, a place of fond memories, was always open for Sunday dinners. She was a good cook and housekeeper. Helen was a collector of beautiful things, like her china and porcelain dolls. She was also a collector of cookbooks. Helen loved her flowers and the house was surrounded by them. She and Joe always had a huge garden they shared together. A Prayer Service was held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 6:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 13, at 11:00 am at the Notre Dame Catholic Church in Dawson Creek. Fr. Louis Kwena officated.
