Obituary of Eva Marie Scobie

Eva Marie Scobie was born March 19, 1927 near Carnation, Washington, USA. She was the youngest of four children born to John Wesley and Florence Gammon. Eva passed away peacefully in the Dawson Creek Hospital, February 4, 2016 at the age of 88, with her children and some close friends at her side. Eva's parents, John Wesley and Florence Gammon, were married December 25, 1912 in Essex County, Ontario. They moved west with daughter, Marjorie to Tees, Alberta. Eva's two brothers, Darwin and Marvin, were born there. In 1923, they moved to Carnation, Washington, USA where Eva was born. From Washington, they moved to Tupper Creek, B.C. when Eva was two years old. In June 1929, they moved to Clayhurst, B.C. Eva did not have an easy life growing up. Money was scarce which made her a self-taught woman in so many ways. She struggled in vain to finish her education, but because of health issues and lack of opportunity, she turned to working in the Rolla area. Here she met Bill Scobie and after three and half years dating they were married October 17, 1946. They were married 58 years until Bill's passing in 2004. Three children were born of this union: Lloyd, who died a few hours after birth, Connie, and Ronald. Eva loved the outdoors and all that farming life procured. Hospitality was a way of life for her and was enhanced by the abundance from the garden and berry patch. After Bill and Eva joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1970, Eva's life of service to her family and neighbors then included the many friends she and Bill gained through their work in the church. Eva was a self-taught seamstress, cook, musician (violin), book-keeper, poet, barber, truck-driver you name it, she would try it! The only thing left on Eva's bucket list (only from lack of opportunity) was to play the drums, sew her own hats, and own a motorcycle! Eva loved to read and study the Bible. Her love for people and love for Jesus never faltered even to the end. This past Christmas, she made a special Christmas card for family and friends with the story of salvation and her picture on the back page with a note to each. Her desire to see each one in heaven someday was so sincere. Eva is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Connie (Ron) Letniak of Consort, AB, and her son Ronald (Cherolyn) of Dawson Creek, B.C.; four grandsons, Colin and Wiley Scobie and Curtis (Julie) and Kevin (Angela) Letniak; five great grand-children, Owen Scobie, Jonathan and Kaitlyn Letniak, and Jaren and Landen Letniak.
