Obituary of Phyllis Lorraine Neuls

Phyllis was born on February 26, 1925 in Marengo Saskatchewan to Clyde and Mabel Chenoweth. In 1928, after a number of moves, the family settled and homesteaded in the Loon Lake area of northeastern SK. Phyllis was the youngest daughter in a family of five brothers and one sister. She grew up on the family farm and completed her schooling in a one-room school house in the 1930s and 1940s. The family was very musical and Phyllis and her brothers and sister sang and played various instruments for dances and competed in and won talent shows. In 1945 Phyllis met the love of her life, Herbert Neuls. They were married on March 24, 1948 and had two children, Lorraine and four years later Robert. They farmed in SK until 1955 when the family moved to the Little Prairie/Chetwynd area where Herb went into the lumber business. Phyllis was a kind, gentle and generous person with a good sense of humour. Being very humble, she had no need for airs and graces, didn't have expensive tastes or live a flashy lifestyle. Luxury, to her, was having her family and friends for Sunday dinner. As a stay-at-home Mom, her family was the number one priority. Her children, along with many of their friends, were privileged to be able to walk home from school at noon and enjoy a hot lunch. She also loved animals and had many bird feeders out up until she passed away at the age of 91. She was very proud of being 91, still having her driver's license and she drove up until about a month prior to passing. She was very friendly and enjoyed chatting with people on her mostly daily trips uptown to the grocery stores, health food store, the post office and church. Phyllis is survived by brothers Russell Chenoweth and Boyd Chenoweth, daughter Lorraine, son Robert (Debora), grandchild Sydney Platt, great grandchildren Keegan, Marc, Marlee and Alexandra and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years Herbert, brothers Buddy Chenoweth, Ralph Studer and Leonard Studer, sister Susannah Mattson, and grandson Lee Dotson. Phyllis' family and friends honoured her memory March 26, 2016 and she was laid to rest in the Upper Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery. For those so wishing, donations may be made in her memory to the Chetwynd Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
