Obituary of Darren Leslie Edmund Jabs

Darren Leslie Edmund Jabs was born August 6, 1971 in Dawson Creek BC to Daryl and Elizabeth Jabs. He was brought home to a small two room house where his first bed was a dresser drawer. Playing in the dirt with his trucks or walking around in our dad's work boots, Darren was your typical little boy growing up. In 1973 the family moved to Pouce Coupe, there Darren began his lifelong friendships with Michael Jalbert and Murray Pratt. The three musketeers or some people could say "the brat pack". If you seen one then you seen them all, which usually meant they were in trouble at the same time too. In 1976, Darren became a big brother to an awesome sister Shandame! At first Darren really liked being a big brother, but as we got older his feelings changed. I became more of a pain in the butt than anything! I was that annoying little sister that followed him around and copied everything that he did, even dressing up as a ninja one Halloween because I wanted to be cool like my brother. In Darren's younger years, he was in Beavers, soccer, baseball and air cadetshard to believe as we all know what he was like with authority! At the age of 17 he started working with our dad and on the pipeline running equipment. His dream came true when he went into business for himself starting Dar-Ex Excavating. I guess the endless hours of playing with trucks and equipment as a child really paid off. Darren was one of the best equipment operators around which he made sure you knew.over and over again. In 1990, he met Shawna Laing and together they enjoyed camping, fishing, and 4x4ing. After 10 years together Shawna finally made an honest man out of Darren and they were married April 22, 2000. Darren's greatest moments in his life happened on August 30, 2000 when Cage Dillon came into the world and then 5 years later on August 16, 2005 when Cy Daryl was born. He was so proud and you could tell with his puffed out chest and his perma grin smile. From there on his life was about the boys and he did all the things that a dad would doquadding, camping, fishing, swimming, watching their soccer games and wrestling with them even when they didn't want to. He made sure to pass his love of running heavy equipment down to his boys. If they weren't going for a ride in the gravel truck, you could find one of them in the equipment sporting a pair of earmuffs. Throughout Darren's life, work would keep him away from home for periods of time, but he always checked in on the home front making sure that Shawna and the boys had everything that they needed. Anyone that knew Darren could vouch for his tell it like it is ways and his strong will. When he told a story or just having any conversation with him, it was always full of energy and multiple F-bombs. Could you imagine how broke he would be if he had to pay for every time he swore? Wow! Darren always portrayed a tough persona but deep down he had a soft and giving heart. He was the guy that always tried to make everyone laugh. Even if he was chewing you out for something at the end he'd look at you with a little smile on his face. Darren's love of fishing found him going all over but one place in particular was the Chowade River. For many years Darren, Todd, Mike, Jasen, Tyler and anyone else, headed up to try and catch the "big one". Crazy thing was when Darren would tell us a story of a fish he had caught he wasn't b.s.'ing. There was always a picture of him holding a monster fish in his hands and sporting a huge grin. In the last few years Darren's biggest love was his riverboat. There was nothing better to him than cruising the river with family and friends. In his usual jokester way, anyone that had never been on the river and more importantly in his boat had to be "Victory Rolled" initiated. If you don't know what that is it constitutes you just about flying out of the boat, but more importantly getting completely soaked all the while Darren standing there with his little smirk. Darren touched the lives of every person he spoke to and made friends everywhere he went. As we sit here today with sadness and emotion I would like each of you to take a moment and think of a time with Darren that makes you smile because I know that is what he would want. I can see him right now saying to me, "it's all good sissycause they've never seen a badass mother like me!" We love you Darren and you will be greatly missed Service 1:00 pm Saturday, April 2, 2016 Dawson Creek Alliance Church 9009 - 10th street DAWSON CREEK, British Columbia, Canada V1G 4T2
