Obituary of Michael Joseph Papp

Michael Papp, a resident of Dawson Creek, B.C., passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 in Dawson Creek at the age of 57 years. Michael Joseph Papp, affectionately known as Zeke, was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dawson Creek on September 28, 1958 to his proud parents, James Samuel and Frances Agnes Papp. Mike was the sixth son born into the Papp family, followed by three younger sisters. Mike was a good man with a very kind heart, he was always willing to help anyone, anytime no matter who you were. Although Mike was a quiet man, he had a great sense of humor. He would always answer your questions if you took the time to listen. He met his wife, Meraphy Paco, in Dawson Creek. They were married by a Justice of the Peace on February 14, 1980. The wedding was held at Jim and Fran's house and the celebration at the house of Meraphy's cousin, the former Julie Oestreich. They were married, a second time, at a Catholic Church on February 14, 1990 in the Philippines. Mike and Mher celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary in 2014. Many attended and honored their accomplishment. Mike showered Meraphy's family with his generosity when he willingly sponsored her mother, Roberta Paco, sisters Marissa (Thola), Restina (Keller), and Floriemar Paco, and niece Marionne Lugay. All five of them arrived in Vancouver in November of 1992 and drove with Jim, Mike, and Mher all the way to Pouce Coupe. Another example of Mike's kind hearted way, along with his wife Meraphy, they adopted two boys: Marc Jason, and Clifford Edward. Marc became a part of their life in 1994 at the age of thirteen, however; he was unable to join his adoptive parents in Canada. He now lives in Olongapo City, Philippines. Cliff joined the family at the age of seven months in 1998. He was a precious baby boy loved by all. Mike was known as a very hard and conscientious worker. He was a very dedicated person in all ways. He was a mail carrier for Canada Post in Dawson Creek, then transferred to Vernon to continue his career. Unfortunately, he was in an accident on May 15, 1980 which forced him to change jobs. That never stopped him. He then worked for LP for approximately 15 years. After leaving LP, he attended Northern Lights College and graduated with his GED. He continued his studies and received a certificate in the Resident Care Aide Program. He immediately began working at the Dawson Creek Society for Community Living, as well as, starting his new career at Rotary Manor where he worked for over 20 years. He was loved and respected by all residents and staff alike. Mike has been to many places around the world, including the Philippines, Hong Kong, many parts of Canada, a wonderful trip to Ireland with his wife, and a trip to Paris with his mother, sister, and wife. Mike loved the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, hiking, and riding his Harley Davidson. And what he truly loved most was "family", all family. Mike was predeceased by his brothers Ron, Ken, and Doug, his sister Sharon, his father Jim, and his stepfather Wilfred. Mike is survived by his loving wife Meraphy, his sons Marc and Clifford, his mother Fran, his brothers Rick (Irene), and Larry, his sisters Jennifer (Lawrence), and Michele, his two grandchildren Jemjem and JayJay, along with many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all the family, and his many, many dear friends. A Prayer Service was held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Notre Dame Catholic Church, Dawson Creek, BC. A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Notre Dame Catholic Church. Fr. Andy Takach officiated. Interment will follow at a later date.
