Obituary of Robert Lindsay Pitts

ROBERT LINDSAY PITTS JUNE 3, 1927 - APRIL 14, 2016 Robert (Bobby) was born to parents Cora and Peter Pitts in the Pouce Coupe Hospital. He joined his siblings Merle, Jean and later Francis Louise (Biddy). The family moved from their farm on the Rolla/Pouce cut off highway to their new home in Dawson Creek as the family grew and their Dad moved from farming to the Publics Works Department of BC Highways as a bridge builder. Bobby graduated from Dawson Creek High School joined his sister Jean working for the NAR (railroad). Both Jean and Bob decided they wanted to move to a larger centre and Bob took a transfer to Kamloops with the railroad then joined his sister Jean in Vancouver. Bob continued his education while working in Vancouver. He put himself through college and worked as a dance instructor as it gave him the flexibility he needed to work and go to college. Bob met his wife Joanne at dance class and married a short time later. Bob had a job offer in Montreal and deciding it was a great move career wise. Joanne decided not to go and the couple divorced. Bob again worked and finished his final year as a Doctor of Psychology and met his new best friend Jack, who was a Professor with the University Bob attended. The two moved onto New York where Jack took on a job as a Professor with New York State University and Bob found the job of his life with a law firm on 5th Avenue in New York City where he worked until his retirement. Bob and Jack also owned a summer cottage in Cape Cod near Boston, Mass., where they loved to go with family and friends for weekends and holidays. After retirement Bob decided to move back to his beloved Vancouver where he had purchased a home in Ladner near the banks of an arm of the Fraser River. Once the house became too large for Bob to handle he moved to an apartment and after two strokes moved in with his sister Jean. Bob spent his last two years in the Minirou Retirement Home until his passing on April 14, 2016. Bob loved to cook for family and friends, wine, the theatre, was an avid fan of tennis and golf on TV, his sister Jean and cat Smokey. Always happy to see his family: sisters Merle and Biddy, nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents Cora & Peter Pitts, sisters, Merle, Vera May & Biddy and best friend Jack. He leaves to mourn his passing, sister Jean Pitts and many nieces and nephews. A service at the Rolla Cemetery will be held in late June. Bob will be buried next to his parents in the family plot.
