Obituary of Jean Ruth Freindorf

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and friend. Jean passed away suddenly Saturday, April 16, 2016 in Chetwynd, BC. Jean was born April 28, 1936 in High Ridge, Alberta, a second daughter to John and Katherine Evoy. Jean spent her childhood in the Okanagan Valley, after high school she volunteered for the Women's Auxiliary in the Armed Forces. It was at a military dance in Kingston, Ontario where she met the love of her life, Leo Freindorf. Jean and Leo were married in 1956 and began their life together. Jean followed her husband and his career across Canada, settling locally in the small communities of Giscome and Bear Lake. Jean made life long friends, and though she was a busy homemaker her door was always open for coffee and conversation. Jean volunteered for the Bear lake Ambulance Service and worked as a First Aid Attendant, jobs she enjoyed and took great pride in. After retirement Jean and her husband moved to Daysland, AB, settling in Creston, BC where she lived until June 2015. Jean then resided in Chetwynd with family. Jean was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing & movies and she played card and board games with a competitive spirit. Jean will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, her kindness and her ability to see goodness in everyone. Jean will be greatly missed by her children: Catherine Rivard (Urbain), Sharon Bailey (Karl), Edward (Dorothea Swain), Vera Andersson (Kjell), Angela Spiller (Laurie), Penny Dray (Jeff Estabrooks), Cynthia Kemp (Lorne), Jeanne Freindorf (Rod Cleave) and Robert (Treena Hall). Jean will also be missed by her brother Robert Evoy, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. Jean was predeceased by her husband Leo, parents Katherine and John Evoy, stepfather Fred Potter, sisters Rita Hall and Mary Scherer, brother Rueben Evoy and grandson Devon Bailey. Services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday April 23, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2890 Burrard Avenue, Vanderhoof, BC. Father Rene Antonio officiating. Interment of ashes to follow at Vanderhoof Municipal Cemetery.
