Obituary of Randy Byron Averill

Randy Byron Averill February 28, 1948 - May 10, 2016 A life lost, the world changed for many. Randy passed away in his home from a heart attack on Tuesday May 10. He leaves behind many close family members: his daughter Nikki (Justin), sisters Delores (Denny), Janice (John), Karen (Richard), five nieces, Erin, Danielle, Breanne, Erica and Carly, an aunt and several cousins. Randy was born in Stettler, Alberta, the son of Ward and Ramona Averill. The family moved to Dawson Creek in 1957 and Randy made Dawson Creek his home for the remainder of his life. He left school in grade 11 and went to work on the W.A.C. Bennett Dam for several years, then went to work for the Department of Highways. His career continued after it was privatized and became Peace Country Maintenance. He retired in 2003 and then worked part time as a pilot car driver. Randy enjoyed many outdoor activities. He curled, played fastball, hunted, fished, camped, rode motorcycles and atv's. In his younger years, he was a very proficient pool player and well known for his achievements in both fastball and hockey. He was an avid Edmonton Oilers' fan and loved watching hockey and curling on TV. Cards and board games were a large part of his family life. Playing poker, shopping, travelling and having coffee with the guys were also enjoyable to him. Akasha, Nikki's cat, was his constant companion. His daughter Nikki was the pride of his life ... he was a caring, devoted father, a supportive and protective brother and a trusted friend. With respect for Randy's wishes no formal service will be held. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Randy's life. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Randy may be made by donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 103-490 Quebec Street, Prince George, British Columbia V2L 5N5 or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 200-4940 Canada Way, Burnaby, British Columbia V5G 4K6.
