Obituary of Leonard Gordon York

Leonard York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in Rotary Manor, Dawson Creek, B.C. at the age of 96 years. A Rite of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Notre Dame Catholic Church. Father Louis Kwena officiated. Interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery. Leonard was born the eldest of 14 to Alexander (Sandy) and Elizabeth (Jenkins) York, in Lacombe, Alberta. The family moved to the Bay Tree area in 1934. Leonard left home shortly afterwards to work as a hired hand at farms in the area. He then enlisted in the army in 1940, and spent a total of 5 years in Lacombe and overseas. He returned home to marry Vicki Sawchuk, and together they farmed at Bonanza for 50 years, retiring and moving to Dawson Creek in 2005. Leonard is survived by his loving Wife; of 72 years Vicki, Children; Gerald (Sonnia), Dennis (Marilyn), and Debby (Sonney), Grandchildren; Darren (Candace), Curtis (Cathy), Crystal (Ian), Shelly (Dan), Chantelle (Jason), Ashley (Jason), and Brittany (Shamus), Great Grandchildren; Tyson (Kirsten), Ashley, Kira, Cydnee, Andrew, Alexander, Annika, Logan, Gabriel, Bethany, Eric and David, and Great Great Grandson; Gordon. Leonard was predeceased by his Parents; Alexander and Elizabeth, 4 sisters, and 5 brothers.
