Obituary of Frederick Douglas "Doug" Sharpe

It is with great sadness that the family of Doug "G-Pa" Sharpe announce his passing on August 22, 2016, at the age of 79, with his family by his side. Doug is survived by his wife Katie and their children Sherry (Barry), Marc (Jackie) and Ryan (Carrie). He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren, Travis (Nicole), Shallyn (Jon), Nicole (Zach), Matt, Ian, Josie, Wendall, Dante, Madison, Maguire, Maverick, Moxie and Marin, as well as his 3 greatgrandchildren, Ryder, Koen and Brooklyn. Doug will also be sadly missed by his siblings Dawn, Fern, Holly and Glenn, along with many friends and extended family. Doug was born, raised and spent the majority of his life living in Kenora, Ontario. He worked for Hydro as a forester for 35 years before retiring. He loved what he did and enjoyed sharing crazy stories about "the good old days". After retirement, Doug needed to keep busy. Aside from chauffeuring grandchildren around, Doug worked midnight's pumping gas at Husky and then moved on to be the Courtesy Driver for Dingwall Ford, where he made many lasting friendships. One thing Doug loved, aside from family, work and chocolate bars, were morning coffee dates. Before heading to work Doug could be found enjoying a coffee and carrot muffin at McDonalds. This tradition carried on when he moved to Dawson Creek, 3 years ago, where he made great memories at Baked Cafe with family and special friends Terry, Lloyd, Lana, Laurie and Devyn. Doug's family would like to send heartfelt thanks to all of the nurses and staff at Rotary Manor and the Dawson Creek Hospital for providing exceptional love and care to him during his time there, as well as to Dr. Brussow for his support, care and compassion. Doug was an avid artist that passed his talent down through each generation. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Doug's name to the South Peace Art Society - Children's Art Program, Phone: 250-782-2601 or mail cheque to 101-816 Alaska Ave, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 4T6 A private family celebration of life will occur at a later date.
