Obituary of George Dilworth

George Dilworth, a lifelong resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, August 28, 2016 in Dawson Creek at the age of 71 years. Samuel George Dilworth was born in Dawson Creek and raised in Sunrise Valley. He was born on October 3, 1944 and was the eighth child of Ernie and Lily Dilworth. George attended school at the Sunrise Valley School and has many lifelong friends from those days. He quit school after Grade 8 to work on the family farm fulltime. George farmed and was a CAT Skinner for most of 50 years and did not have an easy life. He worked very hard to provide for his family and passing on the values that he had been taught. George met Sharon in 1965 at a dance they attended with their friends Leroy and Lynne Willich. They were married on January 14, 1967 and were married 49 and a half years when George passed. In 1967, they purchased the old Haddow homestead and had two children; Sharlene was born on Feburary 10, 1970 and Sherri completed their family on February 20, 1971. They lived in the old house until 1977, when they had the new house built on the same property. The family spent many happy years in the house. George farmed the land for close to 50 years, and when he was not having to work on the farm he taught his two girls how to two-step, drive the red pickup and Grandpa Anderson's old grey standard truck, mow lawns, plant the garden, pick berries, rocks and roots, and any other farm duties that came up. He also taught them how to respect people, proper manners, and to work hard. Although they all worked hard, they remember during the summer, many camping trips as well as trips to the river to swim and have wiener roasts, Sunday drives, and playing cards with family and friends. There was also tobogganing, Sunday dinners, and many skidoo trips in the winter. George became a Grandpa in 1998 when Shanna was born. Then in 2000, a second granddaughter, Savanna was born, and finally in 2001, his only grandson Jordan came into the family. He was so proud of all his grandchildren and bragged about them. George and Sharon moved to Dawson Creek in 2006 when he retired from farming and sold the farm. After 62 years on the farm, the family was not sure how George would like being in town, but he loved it. He would go for breakfast and for coffee whenever he wanted. He became known to many people and staff at Tim Horton's and A&W because he was there so often. George had a quirky sense of humor and was always playing jokes. He was the kind of man who had compassion for animals, people, and the down and out of this world. He would give someone the shirt off his back if they needed it. George was very kind and wore his heart on his sleeve, he was always respectful of another person's feelings, tools and equipment. George was predeceased by his parents Ernie and Lily, his brothers Dick and Dennis, and his sisters Doreen and Pat. George is survived by his loving Wife; Sharon of 49.5 years, Daughters; Sharlene (Dale), Sherri (Jason), Grandchildren; Shanna, Savanna, Jordan, Brenden, Bryce, Levi, Brothers; Jack (Eunice), Bob (Maxine), Sisters; Jean (Gordon), Eileen, Dorothy (Rene), Denise (Jim), Brother-in-law Ron (Linda), Numerous Nieces Nephews and many Friends.
