Obituary of Robert Charles Lightfoot

Robert Lightfoot, a longtime resident of Chetwynd, B.C. passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 in Chetwynd at the age of 84 years. Robert Charles Lightfoot was born on September 2, 1932 in Spirit River, Alberta. Robert attended high school in Grande Prairie and then at the age of 18 he enlisted in the military. He was posted at many Canadian bases, and some European, but mostly Germany and France. He was a member of the International Centre of Commision in Siagon, and was in Vietnam as an observer of the so called ceasefire. Robert also spent time in the Arctic and was involved with the Canadian Rangers. In 1974 after 24 years, Robert retired from the military. He moved to Eaglesham, Alberta where he had his own business. He then moved to Dawson Creek where he owned a little pub. Robert then left Dawson Creek and retired to the shores of Moberly Lake where he spent a lot of time fishing and hiking. Finally, Robert had a house built out at Jackfish and this is where he settled. Here he raised sheep and game birds and played with his loving dogs. He planted fruit trees and grew gardens that beared plenty. Robert was predeceased by his parents George and Mary Lightfoot, his four brothers; Jim, Ben, Howard and Ed Lightfoot, and his sister Sylvia Harkal. Robert is survived by his brother Leonard Lightfoot of Elmworth, Alberta, and his sister Elizabeth Wilburn of Edmonton, Alberta, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and his good friend Michele. Robert was never married and had no children. Robert requested no formal funeral service. Robert's family invites you to join them for a Graveside Service on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery Chetwynd, B.C., Pastor Bill Evans will officiate.
