Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Madill

Joseph Madill, a resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in Rotary Manor at the age of 61 years. Joe was born in Billings, Montana on February 13, 1955 and was the first son born to Joe and Myrna Madill. His sister Jenny and his brother Jeff were also born in Billings. His brother Jimmy was born in Dawson Creek in 1967 after they had immigrated. Joe attended Central and South Peace School in Dawson Creek. He made several lifelong friends during that time. Joe and Lorraine got married on April 6, 1975 and their daughter Francis was born on October 27, 1975. Joe never seemed to stay with the same lady for too long. Joe and Cindy got together in 1981. Daughters Christina and Mandy were born on December 13, 1982 and March 5, 1987. Christina Cook then entered his life, and from this union, son Riley was born on November 16, 1996. Joe often talked about hunting rattlesnakes as a kid. It would have been great fun, going by his recollections. As a young man Joe worked for BC Rail and the local West Frazer Sawmill. After his hand got crushed in 1976 he started working more for himself. He started towing with a red 1967 Dodge one ton. A black and gold '68 Dodge replaced this several years later and inspired the business cards Joe used from there on. He then bought a '78 red Ford. Over the years he towed for many friends. Joe towed for the City of Dawson Creek a lot, the RCMP, the Mall and ICBC. His 5 ton deck truck was bought to tow for Belsum's. Joe's true passion was fixing vehicles, a true doctor for your car. He would tinker on cars, the tow-a-ways that didn't run. After a few days he would take them for a spin around the block with parts from his stockpile. Towing and helping people out is what seemed to give a meaning to his life. From his dad, Joe inherited a love for guns. He had a lot of fun target shooting. When he received his father's guns, his collection grew. Some were very unique or had a history that would get your attention. Joe was an uncommon man, in that he had honor and integrity. He would stand up and say it the way it was, not a whole lot of beating around the bush. A Funeral Service was held Friday, September 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Pauline Haycock officiated. Interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery in Dawson Creek. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Joe to the Canadian Cancer Society 1000-105 Avenue, Dawson Creek, B.C. V1G 2L4.
