Obituary of Arlene Ruth Terry

Arlene Ruth Terry was born July 3, 1952 at St. Joseph's hospital in Dawson Creek, BC to parents Wilbur and Mary Berge. Growing up on the family farm, Arlene helped with chores and the animals. She even had her own little garden which was the beginning of her love and enjoyment for everything horticultural. As a member of the 4-H club, she excelled in clothing which gave her enough points to be a 4-H princess for the Dawson Creek fall fair. Yearly trips were made with the family to Saskatchewan to visit relatives. Arlene enjoyed her time with grandparents, aunts and uncles and the cousins that she saw. At 16, Arlene moved into Dawson Creek and shared an apartment with a couple girlfriends while finishing her schooling and working at Kresge's and other stores in town. In 1968, while attending high school, Arlene met Fred Terry. They were married July 28, 1973. On March 21, 1974, their first child Douglas was born. Four years later on August 23, 1978, their daughter Robin was welcomed into the family. During their marriage, they travelled quite a bit, including a month long trip to Hawaii. Eventually, Arlene and Fred separated, but continued to maintain a strong friendship afterwards. Arlene then met Frank Kurjata. They began dating and after some time, Frank, with his son Brett, moved in with Arlene and the kids. Their life together involved many trips for hockey throughout BC and Alberta, as well as their own adventures to various locations around the world. This was when her love for the casino developed, many a trip involved stopping for a quick break any time a casino was seen. Arlene was a very hard working woman. For many years she was the bookkeeper for her dad at Wildcat Services. Later on, along with friends, they started Picture It. During this time, Arlene and Frank had many business ventures as A & F Enterprises, including buying and renovating houses, steam cleaning, and finally Creekside Garden Dcor. Arlene was an avid gardener, her home was always full of plants and flowers that flourished under her care. She was a long standing member of the Horticulture Society. She spent many hours volunteering at the fair and was a director on the fair board in charge of the horticulture division. She was known for her expertise and many people relied on her advice whether it was asked for or not. The family tradition of baking continued on with Arlene; whether it was a cake, banana loaf or one of her delicious pies, Arlene was always willing to provide goodies for any occasion. Family was very important to Arlene. She was always protective of her kids and grandkids. Arlene's final years were spent travelling and enjoying time with friends and family.
