Obituary of Joseph Ulderic Leonce "Joe" Bouchard

Dad was born Joseph Ulderic Leonce Bouchard on April 27, 1924 in St. Gedeon, Lac St. Jean, Quebec. His parents were Paul and Adelia Bouchard. He had three brothers: Laurent, Lucien, Maurice and three sisters: Blandine, Albertine, Angeline, Elise. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Maurice and his sisters Angeline and Elise. When he left school at a young age dad went to work in a lumber camp. He joined the Canadian army when he was 17 years old. After he left the army he joined the Montreal Police force. Dad had two children who were born in Quebec: Andre and Monique. In 1950 Dad moved to wild rose country and met his Rose in Falher, Alberta. While in Falher Dad worked for Romeo Turcotte and learned the butcher trade. Dad and Mom moved to Edmonton where Dad worked for Safeway. Roger and Jeanne were born during those years. He then moved to Dawson Creek and worked for Thibaudeau Meats and then Northen Meats. Paul, Gerry, Roland, Joanne, Denis, and Suzanne were born at this time. Dad went to work for Safeway again and retired after 27 years. He was 62 years old when he retired in 1987. Dad bought a motorhome and traveled to Kitimat and Terrace to fish for salmon. These were the most memorable relaxing times of his life. Just a few days before he passed away, he was talking about wanting to go back there to do some more fishing. Dad was a hard, contentious worker. He passed these traits on to his children. They worked together many hours custom cutting wild game in our garage. His passion for fishing was also passed on to his children and grandchildren. There was always a rivalry going on during the many fishing trips. Money was bet on who got the first, the biggest and the most fish. Dad often lost those bets. Lots of memories are of him working in his shop building something. Every one of our families had something Pepe had built. There were doll houses, little tables with chairs, and toy boxes, just to name a few. There was always a lot of puttering going on as he was always working on one project or another. Many of us were recipients of one of his contraptions. Dad was at Rotary Manor for five months. The care he received was excellent. He spoke highly of all his care givers. Service 11:00 am Friday, January 6, 2017 Bergeron Chapel 10200-17th Street DAWSON CREEK, British Columbia, Canada V1G 4C2
