Obituary of Doris Roberts

Doris Roberts passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in Chetwynd, B.C. at the age of 92 years. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church, Pastor Bill Evans officiated, interment followed in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery. Doris was born at home, the eldest daughter, of John and Alice Christensen in Forestburg, AB. She was joined by her sister Lorene in April 1926. Doris grew up with a love of music and a natural talent to play many different musical instruments. As a girl she was involved in the church and she was baptized in and later married in that same church. After the war she married Gordon Roberts on October 30, 1946 and they settled in Groundbirch, BC where they farmed and raised four children. In 1964 Gordon accepted a job at Canfor in Chetwynd. In 1965 they resettled in Chetwynd where they continued to raise and enjoy their family for the rest of their days. Doris was very devoted to Gordon and their family and passed on their love and talent for music to all of their children. She loved baking and was also very creative in many different crafts. She could always make our house a home of love and comfort. Doris loved her family and grandchildren and their families very deeply and always had a kind word to say. Doris was predeceased by her mother and father, John and Alice Christensen; loving husband, Gordon; infant daughter Diane Marlene; sister, Lorene and her husband George Etty; daughter-in-law, Joanne Roberts and son-in-law, Merv Grexton. Doris is survived and sadly missed by her loving children, Julie Grexton, Gary (Joyce) Roberts, Ross (Deborah) Roberts, Holly (Russ) Gilmore; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thank you to the Home Care Nurses, staff and residents of Surerus Place, Dr. Bond and nursing staff, Reynars Funeral Home of Dawson Creek and Pastor Bill Evans of the Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church. We would also like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the family and friends who sent flowers, brought food and for their messages of condolence, thoughts and prayers.
