Obituary of Edward Hugh Rudiger

Edward Rudiger, a long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in Dawson Creek at the age of 83 years. Edward Hugh Rudiger was born on March 5, 1933 in Unity, Saskatchewan. He was a farmer, a school bus driver, a business owner, a janitor, a mechanic, a trailer service technician, and a pilot car driver. There really was nothing Edward couldn't fix. He travelled from Saskatchewan to Alberta in the early 1960s and then on to Dawson Creek, arriving with a wife, a dog, and four kids. They moved to the house on 8th Street and lived there for many years before deciding in 1979 to build a home on an acreage overlooking Dawson. Ed lost his wife Shirley in 1987. After she passed, Ed made the move back to town where he had enough space for his "toys". His "toys" over the years were numerous from boats and skidoos to campers and motorbikes. Ed lived his life, his way. He was independent, opinionated, generous, and frustrating, but he was always there for his family. He was there for his kids when their furnace went out, when the car died, when someone needed a ride or a place to live. He was there when they needed money, when they needed someone to travel with or give an opinion on buying something mechanical. Ed was a father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and a friend. He was an dedicated Elk Member for many years. Ed was predeceased by his parents Anne and Otto Rudiger, his stepmother Eva Rudiger, his three brothers Gerald, Jim and Barry, his mother and father in-law Hank and Lydia Regenwetter, sisters and brothers-in-law: Elsie and Jean Rudiger, Lena Regenwetter, Bob and Rosella Brown, and John Regenwetter, his infant son Kerry Rudiger, and his wife Shirley. Ed leaves behind his four children and their families: Beverley (Miles) Mintenko, Anita (Roger) Belisle, Clay Rudiger and Denae Rudiger (Steven Beaver), seven grandchildren and their families: Selina (Jason) Lajeunesse, Douglas (Michelle) Mintenko, Andrew (Felisha) Rudiger, Ann (Matt) Rocha, Mary (Dennis) Aucoin, Stephen Belisle and Laura Belisle, and three great grandchildren: Chase and Layne LaJeunesse and Maria Mintenko. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Reynars Funeral Chapel. Pauline Haycock officiated. Interment will be held at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Ed to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560-University Avenue Edmonton, Alberta T6G-1Z2.
