Obituary of Allison Wilson Hendry

Al Hendry, a longtime resident of Chetwynd, B.C. passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 after a courageous fight with mesothelioma in Chetwynd surrounded by family and friends at the age of 73 years. Allison Wilson Hendry was born on December 1, 1943 in Dumbarton, Scotland to proud parents, Marian Dennet (nee Hamill) and Daniel ('Currie') Hendry. He joined big sister Isabel, completing their family. Al attended Dumbarton Academy. In his youth, Al was very involved in the Boys Brigade, learning to play drums, playing in the band, and acquiring many of their badges and medals. Including their highest honor, The Queen's Badge. He was also named 'Boy of the Year' multiple times. After completing school, Al began an apprenticeship in carpentry. Six years of apprenticeship, night school classes, and hard work was rewarded when he completed his Craft and Advanced Craft, and also Building Technologist certifications. The Craft and Advanced Craft program had him master the present day areas of carpentry, finishing carpentry, cabinet making, joinery, glazing, and ship building; he was truly a master craftsman. The Building Technology would take him in more of the project management and supervisory path, as well as making him a draftsman. He did everything from building beautiful furniture; to renovating a 260 bed hospital; to managing the property and buildings at Faslane, a nuclear submarine base for the British government, always living up to his own exacting standards of quality. Al met Elizabeth Anne Raeside in 1968 and they were married on April 25, 1970 in their hometown of Dumbarton. A daughter, Dawn, arrived on January 9, 1974. After a holiday to Canada, they made the decision to move there as Al's sister Isabel and Elizabeth's sister Margaret were there already. On January 4, 1979, the young family arrived in Fort St. John, eventually moving to the Edmonton area for work opportunities. Settled in their new country, they happily added to the family with Scott being born on March 22, 1985 in the hospital that Al was working in, managing the renovation project. Al and family returned to the Peace area in 1986, later settling in Chetwynd. Al is survived by his wife Elizabeth Anne, his daughter Dawn (Terry), his son Scott, grandchildren Kirsten and Kelly, his sister Isabel and nephew Gavin. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Evans officiated. Interment will be held at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Al to the Chetwynd & District Hospital Foundation, Box 121 Chetwynd, B.C. V0C 1J0. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium Memorial Service 1:00 pm Saturday, March 18, 2017 Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church 4817 53 St Chetwynd, British Columbia, Canada
