Obituary of Bruno Pohl

Bruno Richard Pohl was born on April 26, 1933 in Freudenthal, Spachendorf, Czechoslovakia as it was called in 1933. In October 1939, Bruno arrived in Tomslake with his three year old brother Max, his grand-parents, and four of their children as World War Two refugees from the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia. Bruno went to school until eighth grade at Tate Creek. In his early teens, he started driving truck, working at lumber camps, and helping on his grand-parents farm. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Cora Garberg, and went on to raise four children: Rhonda, Rick, Randy, and Ramona. In 1962, the young family started their own farm in the Tomslake area. With hard work, child labor, and good neighbors, Bruno and Cora built the young farm into the Pohl family legacy. Bruno and Cora were instrumental in starting the Tomslake Volunteer Fire Department, donating the first fire truck, tank, and pumping system, and Bruno worked hard as the first Fire Chief. Bruno and Cora were committed to the community and worked tirelessly on various committees. They both were involved with Rural Crime Watch as liaisons, schedulers, and patrollers. In 1978, Bruno and Cora bought the Tomslake store and operated the Post Office for twenty years. Bruno was employed for many years with the Department of Highways until he took early retirement at the age of 55. He owned and operated Pohl Holdings, a back hoe and gravel business. Bruno loved music. He was the drummer for many local bands and also enjoyed dancing, musical festivals, and floor curling. Cora passed away in 2007, and Bruno married Ruth Pool in 2011. In June 2017, Bruno moved to Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek. He passed away July 30, 2017 after a long battle with prostate cancer. A celebration of life was held Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Bergeron Funeral Chapel. Inurment followed in Tomslake Cemetery, and refreshments were served at the Tomslake Community Hall. Service 11:00 am Monday, August 7, 2017 Bergeron Chapel 10200-17th Street DAWSON CREEK, British Columbia, Canada V1G 4C2
