Obituary of Cynthia Lynne Gerstel

Cynthia (Cindy) Lynne Gerstel , a resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. formerly of Chetwynd, B.C. passed away suddenly at Moberly Lake, BC on August 2, 2017, at the age of 57, in the arms of her husband Carfrey. Cindy was born to Raymond and Adeline Sandnes on September 16, 1959 in the old St. Joseph Hospital, on the banks of Dawson Creek. She was followed by two baby sisters, Deborah and Beverly. The family relocated to Chetwynd in June 1964 and eventually settled at Moberly Lake when Cindy was a teenager. On December 13, 1980, Cindy married the love of her life, Carfrey Gerstel, in the Chetwynd Lutheran Church. The ceremony was followed by a reception at Ricki's Pancake House and a basement social in their Chetwynd home, surrounded by a small group of close friends and family. On June 11, 1981 Cindy became a mother to Crystal Lynne, and thirteen months later, they welcomed a baby boy, Shawn LaVerne. After some time at home with Crystal and Shawn, she began working with her father at his store, Prism Floral Dcor where she became a certified florist. After Prism Floral Dcor was sold, she worked briefly at CIBC before moving on to work at the Court Registries where she started her career. Cindys proudest career achievement was when she was appointed as a Justice of the Peace while working in Chetwynd. She continued to manage the Chetwynd Courthouse until its closure. Cindy was given the opportunity to relocate to Dawson Creek in a management position, where she eventually took over as the Manager of Court Services; a role that she held until her passing. Life for Cindy was more than just work and kids. She loved to dance, play slopitch, curl, golf and spend time with friends and family. She loved to stay up late and to socialize, and hated to miss out on anything. Cindy and Carfrey camped on the weekends every chance they got with family and friends, and of course their beloved pups, Tikka and Taser. On July 20, 2012, Cindy became a grandmother to a precious girl, Kinley Isabelle Czaban, who quickly became known as her "Doodlebug". Fourteen months later, she welcomed her second grandchild, Logan Nikolas Czaban. Fourteen months later came Carter Avery Gerstel, and in August of 2016 Adrian Francis Gerstel was born. In the span of four years her wish to be a grandmother was fulfilled. She was surrounded by more grandbaby love than she had thought possible. Cindy lived her life for the people around her. She worked hard. She was fiercely proud of her children and grandchildren and was a loyal and loving partner to Carfrey for 42 years. She was taken far too soon. Cindy was predeceased by her parents-in-law, Martin and Sheila Gerstel, and sisters-in-law Carrie Forsyth and Joanne Roberts. Cindy is survived by her parents Adeline and Raymond Sandnes, her husband Carfrey Gerstel, her daughter Crystal Gerstel (Mark Czaban), her son Shawn Gerstel (Caitlin Gerstel), her grandchildren: Kinley and Logan Czaban, Carter and Adrian Gerstel, her sisters Deborah Roberts (Ross Roberts), and Beverly Grotkowski (Todd Grotkowski) , her brothers-in-law: Aubrey Gerstel (Janet Lawson), Joseph Gerstel (Sandra Gerstel), and Norby Gerstel (Catherine Couture), sisters-in-law Janice Malcolm (George Malcolm) and Rowena Bryant (Dave Bennet), as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, all of whom Cindy adored. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church. Pauline Haycock officiated. Interment will be at a later date. For friends so wishing donations may be made in memory of Cindy to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, B.C. & Yukon, 200-1212 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C. V6H 3V2.
