Obituary of Doug Hergott

Doug Hergott, a longtime resident of Gordondale, Alberta passed away on September 17, 2017 at the age of 75. Doug was born in Linwood, Ontario on February 27, 1942 to Alec and Hilda Hergott. Doug decided to go west at the age of 18 and settled in Fairview for a number of years. On one of his trips home for the winter, he met his future wife Marie, the girl from across the road who was all grown up. They were married on February 4, 1967 on a cold blizzard-like day. They returned to Fairview to continue farming until 1973. They returned home to Linwood, Ontario for the next five years where Doug farmed and worked for the Mckee Bros. as a welder and shop foreman. In 1978 they returned to Alberta and settled on the farm in Gordondale where they farmed. Doug also worked at Nortech as a welder and shop foreman until his retirement. Doug's great love next to his family was restoring antique tractors, and he has many on his farm that can attest to that. Doug was predeceased by his parents Alec Hergott and Hilda Greyerbiehl, two brothers Len and Richard Hergott, and a brother-in-law Elmer Bruder. Doug is survived by his wife of 50 years Marie Hergott (Brenner), celebrated this past June; his four sons Dan (Karen) of Smoky Lake, Alex (Tracy) of Gordondale, Scott of Toronto, and Tim (Christa) of Grande Prairie; his three grandchildren Charlene (Damon), Tessa, and Eric; and siblings Cathy Bruder of Maryhill, Ontario and Vince (Joan) Hergott of Linwood, Ontario. Doug will be missed by his many friends and neighbors. At this time we remember that Death does not extinguish the light. It is putting the lamp out, because the dawn has come. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 2pm at the Gordondale Hall. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Doug may be made by donation to the charity of your choice.
