Obituary of Bob Coutts

Bob Coutts 1928 - 2018 Robert John "Bob" Coutts, resident of Rolla, passed away on March 14, 2018 in the Dawson Creek Hospital at the age of 89. Dad was born October 6, 1928 in Lashburn, Saskatchewan to parents Winifred Till and Neil Coutts, followed by sister Jean (Don Johnson). At Bob's request, no funeral service will be held. Dad was predeceased by our mother Edith in November 2002. It was a huge adjustment for him, which he tackled with grace and finesse, and surrounded himself with family and friends. He was close to his friends from the Living Church of God, of which he was a proud member. Dad spent many years logging with his close friend Bill Young and had many great stories of the way things were. Interesting, hard work, and great friendships made for some great memories. One of his fondest memories he shared was at a very frustrating moment fighting ice, snow, and bloody cold icy chains. Bill Young and another friend started to serenade him with the song "What a friend we have in Jesus,", and Dad recalled he was so shocked that they all burst into laughter. He never said if it was the fact Bill knew all the words, or if it was just Bill's singing. Dad had a pilot license, and really enjoyed the freedom of flying, and it gave him even more stories. He often told the story of flying with his friend Bob McBeth on a cloudy kind of day. As he was coming in for landing, friend Bob was getting pretty anxious about the upcoming runway, and Dad asked if he was okay. Bob remarked, "How are you going to land this thing?" And Dad said, "Geez, Bob! I was just thinking the same thing!" He had a great sense of humor. Dad farmed in Rolla on the original Coutts homestead for many years, with many stories of starting out with no machinery, the tough times, and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Dad will be missed forever by his broken-hearted family: children Charlotte (Doug), John (Tina), Carol (Bruce), Bob, Maryellen (Gary), Barry (Michelle), and Blair (Dixie); grandchildren Bailey, Garrett, Dustin (Candace), Dylan (Courtney), Riley and Jonathan; and great-grandchildren Dayton, Carson, and Charles. Dad will also be missed by family, many friends and his Living Church of God family in B.C., Alberta and the U.S. A true gentleman, great father and grandfather and awesome friend.
