Obituary of Ann Haight

Kathleen Ann Haight (Ann), resident of Dawson Creek passed away on November 6, 2019. Ann was born on April 18, 1940 in Port Alice, BC, the eldest daughter of George and Betty Baldwin. Ann had fond memories of her childhood in Port Alice especially riding the steamboats, fishing for salmon, and spending weekends at Victoria Lake. Ann was an accomplished pianist and was often asked to play at family gatherings as well as being the organist for the local church. After graduation, Ann attended secretarial college in Vancouver, BC. Through her secretarial work she became adept at using computers and even taught beginner computer classes while working for the University College of the Cariboo. Ann was always keen to learn and adopt new technologies and kept her kids on their toes asking questions about the newest app or device. Ann married in 1961 and had two children, Valerie and Bill Thompson. The family lived in Revelstoke and Terrace before Ann separated from her first husband and moved to Robert's Creek, BC. Ann and her eldest two children then moved to Dawson Creek in 1971 where she met the love of her life, David Haight, soon after. The family relocated to Merritt and then Kamloops when David was transferred for work, but Dawson Creek was always special to Ann. After retirement David and Ann moved back to Bessborough, and Ann never wavered in her belief that the farm was the best place on earth. Ann had a lifelong love of nature and spent an uncountable amount of time planning, working in, and photographing her garden. On any sunny summer day she could be found outside checking on her garden or enjoying the view while listening to music in the gazebo. Ann also found immense joy feeding and watching backyard birds and deer. Ann was always very involved in the communities she lived including organising hockey fundraisers, joining a pipeline group or volunteering for community groups. Ann struggled with rheumatoid arthritis for more than half her life but never let the disease take away her cheerful and social disposition. Ann's strength and positive outlook were an inspiration to her children, grandchildren, and everyone who knew her. Ann leaves behind her husband of 45 years, David Haight, her children Valerie Thompson (Stephen Estabrooks), Bill Thompson (Darcy Dragseth), Stephanie (Jason) Russell, and Brian (Bree) Haight, and grandchildren Kyle Thompson, Brendan Estabrooks, Bryce Thompson, Connor Estabrooks, Causton Haight, and Lilianna Russell, as well as many brothers and sisters in law. Ann was predeceased by her parents, George and Betty Baldwin, and sister Andrea Waters. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Bergeron's Chapel, officiated by celebrant Cathy Tubb. Interment will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery in Sunrise Valley and refreshments at the Bessborough Hall.
