On Sep. 23, 2021, I ‶found″ the notice, about my good friend Kaethe Schmakeit’s death, on December 27, 2020, while I attempted to confirm her address, since she had not responded to my last two snail mails. I regret, that the person, who kept the content of the snail mail, did not find it in his or her heart, to let me know about Kaethe’s passing. We have known her since about 1970 and have stayed in lose contact in spite of moves and live getting in the way. Kaethe was a wonderful friend and we have shared several short quality visits. During one we went to eat out and ordered two different dishes, only to be served the same ingredients, presented in two different ways. She also was a terrific cook and baker and once, while visiting her, she told me to just help myself to food. Well, over several days, I ate a quarter slab of her delicious poppy-seed bars, straight from the freezer, while her and my husband were away hunting. I will miss Kaethe and her infrequent phone calls, after she no longer could write back and hope, that all her descendants will now make peace with each other.
