Obituary of Ernie Wilfur

Ernie Wilfur was born Saturday, June 29, 1935, in Fish Lake, Saskatchewan and passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the age of 86 years, with his family by his side. Ernie was well known in the Dawson Creek community. Ernie and his brother Alex, owned Western Lath sawmill, located on the Sweetwater Road in Rolla, BC. He was a very hard worker and always encouraged others to have a strong work ethic. Ernie was an avid badminton and racquetball player and loved to teach others how to play the game. He often bet opponents that he could beat them at a game, even if he played in his sock feet. Ernie was very passionate about snowmobiling and strived to be the King of the Hill. He would spend countless hours tuning his sled and never tell any of his sledding secrets on how he made his snowmobile perform so well. Once Ernie retired from work, he was finally old enough to take up golf. Ernie and Marijke golfed every day, either at Farmington Fairways or Eaglesham. On his 80th birthday Ernie celebrated by playing 80 holes of golf in one day! Ernie is survived by his spouse Marijke Duff; brother Alex (Maureen); sister Linda; son Wayde Wilfur (Kathy); daughter Carly Kruger; stepsons Justin Duff (Shannon) and Neil Duff (Nicole); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son Randy Wilfur; parents Carl and Chris Wilfur; eldest sister Ella Korf; and brother Leonard Wilfur. Ernie will be deeply missed. Thank you to the Dawson Creek Hospital for your compassion and care during his final days. With respect to Ernies wishes, no formal service will be held. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Ernie to the Alzheimers Society of British Columbia, #300 - 828 West 8 Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, V5Z 1E2.
