David Evenson

Obituary of David Melvin Evenson

It is with the heaviest of hearts and deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our brother David Melvin Evenson, a longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, at the age of 85 years.

David was born in Baulf, Alberta, to William and Mary Evenson. The family moved to northern British Columbia, settling in Dawson Creek. After the death of our dad in 1954, David quit school at 16 and went to work. He worked at McCoy Brothers and later at Capital Motors. He was a member of the IUOE union since 1979. In 1980, David married Violet Doonan, sadly Violet passed away in 1989.

David lived a simple life, he loved going to auction sales, going for drives and collecting cans and bottles. He loved meeting up with his buddies for coffee and was always willing to help a friend at their farm, cutting wood, putting up fence posts and helping with the harvest. He knew at the end of the day he would enjoy a good home cooked meal. David loved square dancing, playing Keno, and going to the casino.

David suffered a brain injury after a fall in April of 2018. He spent over a year in the Dawson Creek Hospital before going into long term care at Rotary Manor.

David was predeceased by his dad, in May,1954; mom in June, 1980; wife Violet in 1989; and his brother-in-law Dennis Ollenberger in 2000.

David is survived by his sister Marilyn (Earl) Friedel of Kamloops, British Columbia; brother LeRoy (Marilyn) of Emma Lake, Saskatchewan; sister Donna of Kamloops, British Columbia; nephews Peter Friedel, Kym Evenson; nieces Peggy Tilleman, Maryann Bruneau, Caroline Ralston, Shandel Belley, Cheryl Ollenberger, Kerri Gates, along with numerous great nieces and nephews; cousins Della Downie, Janice Trent, Carol Ashlee, Sandra Vilain, Cheryl Horne, Lawrence Hurum, Betty Koetke and Grace Shandro. He will also be missed by his best friend Gary Donselaar, who the family would like to thank for all he did over the past 4 years. His visits, coffee and treats he would bring to David along with the many things he assisted the family with.

A special thank you to the all the nurses, care aids and staff at Rotary Manor. Your care, compassion and empathy never went unnoticed and it was so appreciated by the family - especially during COVID when family couldnt visit. Special mention must be made to his nurse Marilyn, you went above and beyond in your care for David. You could always talk him into what he needed to do even though he would say No or No Way.

The family invites you to a Graveside Service for David that will be held at the Dawson Creek City Cemetery on Friday September 15, 2023, at 11:00 am.

Rest In Peace David You will be missed, but never forgotten

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
